I will be changing the handguards to a free floating one. I know the fsb can be a real #####. Now if I can get it off great but if I cant I was looking at getting the Allen gun works low profile gas block. I liked it because it is pin on type. My question is will it fit or is the norinco a different size or pins in some different location? thanks

If the Norinco barrel is .750, it will fit. It's not likely the pin holes will line up given the different style, plus the AGW uses a taper pin vs. the straight pins on the Norinco.

Why not just cut the stock FSB down? As long as you pick a handguard that uses the OEM barrel nut and will slide over the FSB, you're good to go. Here's a couple pic of one I cut down for a buddy a couple weeks ago with a NEA handguard.

I didn't know the norincos didn't use taper pins. Either way its highly unlikely the pin holes would match up properly regardless of make. To get the nork pins out you will have to use short and hardened punches or a shop press and likely some heat. The Chinese never intended for them to be removed when they installed them.

The handguard that I am using has its own barrel nut. I will just cut down the stock fsb if I can get it off but if I cant I will be cutting it off the gun. I will need a gas block then and I have been looking more. I would like a clamp on gas block but i am out to any. What have people used and how well did they work?

if the gas block works fine, dont mess with it. cut off the sight and get a midlength (9") free float handguard or longer to go over the cut off gas block

Just cut the FSB. I used almost everything short of a hydraulic press. Didn't even budge the pins. Took all of 10min to cut/shape/blue the FSB to fit my rail.
Its not difficult to cut the FSB while its still on the barrel, especially if you're using a dremel. I did mind with a big ass grinder with just a zipcut blade and it turned out pretty good.

I just picked up one of the newer Norinco 10.5's and the pins were peened on both sides, but looked like swage/stepped pins to me. I was looking at the DD or the AGW gas blocks as well and then running a DD or KAC 9 inch free floating quad my self. I figure worst case I can use a drill press and drill out the pins and use a press to get the FSB off.

The pins can also be pressed/pushed off in a regular vise. I would recommend a 4" at least. Use the vise to get them movin and then punch them out from there.

I've removed about 4-5 FSB on norinco's now and all of them had taper pins, most came out not to bad, I only had one I had to beat the crap out of. Helps to have the proper taper pin removal punch though...

mrblue357, once you had the FSB off I'm guessing you put on a low profile gas block. Were there any issues, did you find one worked better then the other?

Hello there Stevo, that a very nice hand guard!, you made that yourself? very nice.
