OK, stupid question time.

To install a one shot extention to the Norc, do you have to drill or swage out the spring cap detents, or is that just if you are replacing the factory follower???

Only if you want to add another shell:rolleyes:

That's the smarta$$ answer.

Yes, the detents will have to be removed. I just chuck a 1/4" drill in a drillpress and remove them, and then clean up the burrs and cold blue.

You can also swage them out if you like. Get a socket that just fits in with the detents, and hammer the area at the detent while supporting the tube on a block of wood. Do a little at a time and then replace the socket with a slightly larger one until the detents are gone and it looks like they were never there. If you need help with it Canuck 223, give me a call and drop over.

You know, concidering how often this job likely is done, I can't believe nobody has bothered to make up a hardened swaging tool and tube support.

Thanks for the info guys.

Don't need one. As I said the drill press does wonders, but the tool is already made, it's called a dent raiser - http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/productdetail.aspx?p=399

RePete.

When I first spotted that tool, I thought this was the job it was meant for. When I read that it was grooved to clear the tabs, I assumed it was just intended to straighten and raise dents in the tube, not swage out the factory detents.

I would think it would be fairly easy to machine a tapered rod the right diameter, with a gently tapered thread. It could be ratcheted into and out of the tube, rolling the detents out of the way. Or perhaps machine a dummy mag tube cap as a support, and a simple screw press.

Ya, ya, a lot of words to simply say I hate the idea of drilling out the tube. I'd rather just press the dent out.

Oops, thought you were talking about this part number
