Norinco JW-14 question re: mags

I see you have the Norinco JW14 in stock. I own one of these rifles, your website says it uses Marlin mags. Which model Marlin? The ones for my 795 sure don't fit, but I would gladly buy some of the right ones if I knew which ones to get. The Norc mags are definitely the weak link in this rifle.

Glad you mentioned that, I just got a JW-14 and was going to pick up a couple of 795 mags. I agree, by the looks of this 10 rounder the rifle will be a single shot before long.

I think I paid $25 for my extra Norc mag. Hard to come by, and just as crappy as the original. That's why I want to know what else works. I think paying extra for another Norc mag was a waste of time and money.

I tried my CZ 452's mag in the JW-14 and it doesn't fit (too long).
Tried the JW mag in the CZ and it doesn't fit (too wide).

So the search begins.
If anyone could point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated!

Yes, mags for a marlin M-70 work. I bought a 25-round banana mag today for the M-70 and it fits perfectly.
Now, I haven't fired it yet, lol...but it cycles rounds through manually...

This was were I got the tip:

@ Barret50cal - the brand is Champion, labelled as "25 round magazine" "Marlin model 795 & 70".

Yes, it took a tiny bit of wiggling to get it all the way up there the first time...but then it went. I think the folks online that say "795 mags won't fit" perhaps haven't "tuned" for their mags. It ain't rocket science (well, actually, I guess it kinda IS, lol)...but with the JW-15, you can SEE how the wood has just been gouged out by hand to make the banana mag fit - so no worries about shaving a TINY bit off to accommodate the 25-rounder.

UPDATE: using a small flat file, I removed a very small amount from the sides of the Champion 25-round banana - where it fits into the rifle. One side of the mag has a tiny "rib" up the center, probably to ensure a tight fit in the Marlin, but it made the mag a bit TOO tight in my JW-14, causing it to squeeze ever-so-slightly the rounds, and prevent them from popping up to be chambered after each shot.

After a few passes with the file, making the side of the mag flush, it fits perfectly, works great and, get this...my JW-14 with the Champion banana mag cycles CCI Quiets!

Note...with an inexpensive rifle like this, tolerances may vary, so be sure to try the mag and test it first before any filing...you may not need any. I bought a second mag and filed it as well - it didn't work right until I did.

Also, both my Champion mags came apart/unglued the first time I pulled them out (due to the tightness in the rifle). I just re-glued them, a touch of epoxy where you can see the old glue that failed.

These mags have made my JW-14 one of my favourites for the 22 range now...

The ones I use are 25-round "Champion" mags....clear plastic with grey tops, and marked with "fits M795 and M70".

I bought two from a local Army Navy surplus store.

Here is a video where I dump one...note that I have painted it black, but it comes as clear plastic.

If you Google "JW-14 Marlin M70 mags" you will find the resource where I found out that these were a match. It's a site called Hoosier Guns, or some such... I do not want to break any rules by posting a link. But it will turn up in the top few URLS on Google. I only want to help CanadaAmmo's customers with this info - as that is where I got my JW-14 and I love it!

As the video clearly shows.

I am not sure why your M795 mags do not work. But, officially, it is M70 mags that I have found to work...in particular, the 25-round bananas.

Cheers

This rifle looks interesting. Anyone care to comment on accuracy and reliability?

Lol...I am starting to sound like I work for CA...but no. I have nothing but praise for my JW-14, at well under $200 they're a tremendous value.

I have only used mine at the indoor 20 yard range, so I cannot really comment on accuracy...other than, with a scope and bipod, I can put most of all 25 inside a loony-sized hole...but that's nothing special.

It likes CCI Blazers, and also bulk Federal.

I went out and found a used JW-25a after this, and I love that as well. You can't FIND a wooden-stocked rifle for under $200 anymore, except these. Of course, it IS some sort of stained softwood, that scratches easily, but overall they are nice full-sized .22s - and the bolt on the 25a puts my Marlin XT-22 to shame for smoothness - although I am hoping it will smooth out over time.
