Norinco JW-15A Compact Short Barrel .22 Rifle .

Here I am, a few years (and a few pounds) ago..shooting my JW15A "Backpacker". They're a little rough around the edges, but I love mine. Sights are useless, as is the crappy mag they send...but throw a scope on and use a CZ452 mag in it, and have some fun. It's my foul weather rifle, since it almost looked well used when new. :) (Norinco QC) Pretty unique guns as far as I'm concerned, and accuracy is very decent.

Very rough trigger but mine was reliabl feeding and accurate.

The sights are poor quality and the short radius makes the practical accuracy poor.

Good lil gun for the money.
The trigger should be an easily curable issue for a gunsmith.

I sold mine and replaced it with a Stevens 300. Similar gun and uses standard savage mags as well as I swapped in a savage accutrigger which addressed the trigger problem nicely

I have one too. It had a rough trigger but I got that sorted out. Solid built and has a tough finish. The 5 round
Mags sit flush nicely. I bought the short Stevens to compare. The action was smoother on the Stevens. The trigger was worse on the stevens( fixed that too) but I couldn't get past the flimsy stock and constantly failing
mag release digging into my back. I lost game because of it. I still have the norinco, it's not going anywhere.

Pretty much the same, I am fiddling with williams sights on mine, but I need to make a spacers as the dovetail is a different size. Will likely get the receiver tapped to take a rail.

Doesn't Williams make a 3/8 dovetail mount for 22s? I think I've got one in the parts bin that would fit. I think it's a FP but I don't remember the model.

I've got two of them. Great little rifles. I didn't like the sling swivels that they came with, so I changed them out for swivel studs. The rear sight gap is too narrow. I opened it up to 3/64 and now the sights are just fine. One of the mags (both 5 rounders) didn't feed properly, but the other one worked just fine. Disassembled the mag and a little tweaking of the follower and now it works great! 500 plus rounds and NO failures! The triggers on both of mine are ok. Maybe its a hit and miss type of thing with these rifles? All I can say is that I'm happy with mine! The bolt was a little rough as well. I mean it felt like it was "grinding" when it was cycled. Not when lifting the handle, but when moving the bolt back and forth. But now it is smooth. Maybe it just needed to be broken/wore in? Hope this helps you out. Good shooting, Toni.

I picked up a used one from EE a short while ago. The previous owner had smoothed out the bolt and mag and those work flawlessly. Very light trigger on my specimen. I replaced the rear sight with one from a Savage Mark II.....it was a hair loose, however, I shimmed it enough to become a tight fit. The U-notch on the Savage iron is much better finished and wide enough to allow sufficient light.

At the range, adjusting the windage was a pain in the ass as it was a hit or miss affair (pun intended) using a brass hammer/punch. Once that was settled, I was able to consistently place shots inside a 3inch ring (25 yard target paper set up at 50 yards). At that range, the front sight blade was almost covering the black ring.

Out of the 8 variety of rimfire ammo, Round Nose and HP that I tried (Win, Rem, Federal, CCI) - Win Super X Subsonic 40 gr (X22LRSUBA) and Power-Point (X22LRPP) grouped the best - both surprisingly printed under 1in over those somewhat crude irons at 50yds. I would like to now use a scope and see if can use that for head shots on birds.

.22LRGUY - what scope and rings do you have on yours....thanks,

The only thing I don't like about it is that they are borderline to loud but other then that they are super fun. I found that the action smoothed out after 3-400 rounds and the trigger just needed a bit of polishing but it has a very nice consistent break( first stage is like1/4" long and the second stage is 1/16" long) but there is 3 feet of over travel though. Overall I found it to be a good accurate rifle you won't feel to bad throwing around or dropping in the mud.

If you get one you should defiantly get some cz 452 mags they are pricy but its been 100% reliable after 1500 rounds 1000 of which were probably through the cz mag.

Funny this thread popped up, I just coated mine last night and threw a new scope on it, I bought 2 cz452 mags to go with it and the original 9 round mags works well too. The only complaint I have is the trigger is too light at 1.5lbs if anyone knows how to increase it I'm all ears. Here it is today after the paint jobs (also the stock is tan, but looks white in this picture)

Scope is a weaver, and I think the rings are medium, not sure as I've had them for sometime. Any lower and the bolt would hit the scope when racked open

The Triggers are adjustable. There is a small screw on the heal of the trigger, you'll need a small screwdriver (flat) or a 1/4 drive bit with a very small flat.

Had one. Was decent gun but Seemed bit rough as typical economical norinco. Found a savage mod 300 made in lakefield Ontario. Similar price...Way nicer gun...so I got rid of jw.
By the way they shoot great with CCI cb long in single shot loading one by one.

My CZ452 mags will hold 5 CB longs and feed them just fine. Didn't think they would, but they do! I still have more of them, but now buy the CCI Quiet 22 (lr version) for use in my other 22s. Great for pop can sniping! :)
