Hello, all.

Been thinking about scoring one of these as a "course gun" for the CFSC. Handy to get it in and out of the car, light to haul around, decently representative of "bolt action", and plastic stock that doesn't mind getting banged around or dropped on the floor by some neophyte.

Two questions:
1) Any difficulty in pulling the firing pin?
2) Will it function without the firing pin?
3) If it requires the FP to function, where can a guy get a replacement I can trim the tip off of for the course?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi, its built the same as the cz452. The firing pin is the length of the bolt and I dont think it will be easy to replace from norinco if you want a spare. A cz one may fit. The cz bolt goes in but I wouldn't fire it like that because I ja e no idea of the head space so that's as far as I went. Hope this helps. Cheers

Thanks, bud.

From what I'm seeing, it needs the firing pin, and pulling it is dead simple. That leaves finding a spare so I can grind the tip off one of 'em. Got a message in to Tenda to see what they have. Anyone else have any ideas beyond the usual suspects - WGP, Brownells, etc.?

As Aaron said a cz 452 firing pin might work. I know the striker spring is the same as a CZ452 as I dropped in a yodave striker spring in mine.

Is the question you want to know if it still functions without a firing pin so you can you have students do the practical portion of the course and have it still go “click” when a snap cap is loaded and the trigger pressed?

I’ll take the firing pin out of mine and test that for you when i have some time tomorrow.

Yessir, that's exactly it. I appreciate you checking. :)

I took my bolt apart today. Without the firing pin the bolt can’t be assembled securely. You need the firing pin and striker spring to keep tension on the safety, and the safety keeps the bolt handle in place.

You can also try reaching out to sfrc as I think they do the warranty for north sylvia to see if they can source a firing pin or even if they have a damaged firing pin you can purchase.

I do like the idea of using a jw15 for the course due to the shorter barrel length and not being as unwieldy compared to say a 18 inch plus barrel especially for those who aren’t as familiar with firearms.

Someday I won't be teaching the course anymore. When that day comes, I want a fireable rifle.

I like the look of this one for a number of reasons, but mostly the stumpy tube and the neat proportions. Open to suggestion, though - tell me more about this "Scorpio"? Only gun I know of with that name is a M.92 clone with a garish laser engraving on the side of the receiver. I'm guessing that isn't what you're talking about...

Thanks, terBC. I appreciate you going to the effort. I kinda figured that'd be what we're up against. :) On your recommendation, I've reached out to SFRC. Hopefully that have a spare or two.

The shorter barrel is great for making people mindful of muzzle control, too. Shorter guns are "pointier", and having something that short will make them more conscious of the need to watch where they point it. That's my hope, anyhow.

Glad to help, gave me a reason to give the bolt a clean.

It’s too bad tenda is out of cz452 firing pins as it looks pretty close to the jw15 pin but i don’t know dimensionally if a cz firing pin will fit in the bolt.

I checked numrich too and they’re also out of cz firing pins.

Wolverine supplies is the cz warranty centre, I would ask them if they have a cz452 firing pin and you could grind that down and leave the jw15 pin intact for when you retire from teaching.

I also think a shorter barrel will make your students much more aware of muzzle control too

Good luck in your search.
