Hey all,
Curious as to why the norinco m14's are so popular, i see so many in the ee and on sellers websites. are they a good rifle for the price or what is the deal? ive been looking at them a lot recently myself.
Thanks

Huh...!?

Fixed it for you. ;)

See the Battle Rifles forum. In a nutshell, they're a military-style 308 that's non-restricted, reasonably priced and ammo is plentiful and not killer pricey. That and Blackhawk Down was an awesome flick.

Ummm... what...!?

Since Real M14 rifles are prihib, American made Civilian versions run around $1800, the $400 Norrico/polytech M14s are a pretty good deal. I a still kicking myself for not getting one over the summer when I still worked. (I kinda feel like an outsider, posting on this forum without owning at least 1/2 of a m14)

Mine hasn't gone under Hungry's wrenches and other tools, and the barrel is a little off index, but I can hit targets at most 200 yards away with open from it.

they are on the "wants" list, and i wanted one, so got a 2007 version a few months ago.
I would definately go for the 2009 Norc. with the black stock.

so,why is the real M14 a prohib anyways? is it easily converted to full auto?

Because it falls under the "converted auto" 12(3) category. When originally issued they came with a parts kit that if installed made it a rifle capable of semi and full auto firing.

My understanding from reading the "M14 Complete Assembly Guide" is that there are only something like 28 known "real" M14 recievers in private hands in the US.

How are the Norinco M-14's for tolerances? I have a serious hard-on for a Mk 14 Mod 0 project (EBR) and if these are suitable platforms for it I shall buy one off the EE and get started right away.

Here again, taken from the M14 Complete Assembly Guide, and listed in the order in which you would choose a receiver if you had the choice... for a custom build your would choose (and in order):

1. Fulton Armory
2. Norinco / Polytech
3. Springfield

And that's no s**t... they list the Sproinger last of the three...! From all I've read (including Hungry's and Laz's posts) you'd be GTG with Norc for your EBR.
