I don't know what happened but for some reason I cannot rack the slide when the gun is empty and without a magazine. When I pull back the slide, the slide stop moves ‘up’ and locks it open. Its just as if there is an empty magazine in the pistol, when it locks the slide for safety reasons. I cannot return the slide to normal closed postion until I lower the hammer. This doesn't happen to my Colt 1911 government model -- why the Norinco? Thanks for any help!

The slide release also holds the barrel link in place and it is under tension when the slide is pulled back, check for bent slide release shaft leading to engagement under tension.
Or if the slide release shaft is worn it could cam under tension.
Or not.

Skinny is probably on the right track. I'd add that it might have something to do with your slide stop detent. Maybe the spring is not functioning as it's supposed to, either binding in the plunger tube, or missing entirely.

Have you disassembled your pistol lately?
