Hello,

I am a European owner of an m305 rifle. I want to suppress it, but I don't want to do so without turning down the gas.

The schuster metric adjustable gas plug seems like the optimal solution, but they're out of stock everywhere.

Is there any other solution? Could I drill a perfectly sized hole through my stock gas plug? Are there any other products that adress this issue?

My thinking is that I will kit out my old stock m305 with a new stock, cut down barrel, suppressor and digital NV for hog hunting. The suppression is really a good thing when you're shooting at night outside the neighbour farmers bedroom window... (Every hunter with a connection to the village are cooperating to basically pest control the hogs)

Hey how about this: I drill and tap the gas plug from the front with the largest hole I can fit, then I get a bunch of hex bolts and drill the center of them in various size holes. The largest hole that will still let the action cycle with the suppressor mounted is the one to go for. Its basically an adjustable gas system that's not really field adjustable.

Does the M305 take the same gas plug as an M1 Garand? Not sure what Numrich's policy for Sweden is, but they have both original and Schuster plugs in stock for the M1

In theory, the M14 gas system is self regulating. Once the gas system has received enough pressure to move, the gas port gets shut off by the moving piston. Personally I'd try the gas system unmodified.

The M14 is not the best suppressor host due to its thin barrel. A big heavy 30 caliber silencer will play havoc with that thin, whippy barrel.

On the M-14 family there is a gas shutoff for firing rifle grenades. This is not likely the solution you want but it hasn't been mentioned yet. There is a small plug with a straight cut in it that can be turned to shut off the gas.

I don't know how USGI parts play with the metric sized stuff on the M305's gas system but my suggestion would be the Shooting Sight drilled M14 spindle valve. It replaces the spindle that you turn to "turn off" the gas system so you have the standard sized valve and then an under-sized one (where there used to be none) for running suppressed (or heavier loads) and not thrashing your oprod. If the replacement spindle valve doesn't fir in your chinese gas system, either get a USGI one or see if you can have a machinist cross-drill your existing spindle valve.
