What do you guys think of Norinco M-305s?

The deal seems too good to be true. Are they good? I plan on building it up over time.

Added by Hungry: DON'T buy ONE. Buy TWO of the damn addicted things!! Are they good ? They are a fabulous buy. If you like to tinker, (read: NO Bubbas) the M14 is a great tinkering rifle to tweak and spend time with.... just like an AR15 flat top or a Ruger 10/22 or a 1911 platform pistol.

It just seems like such a good price. I feel like there must be a catch.

Yes, there is a catch. The slow boat from China is slowing down all the time.... The Kommunists are dangling us ! Are you sure you wanna build it up with USGI parts ? That's getting more and more expensive with each passing day. Also, you are opening yourself up to greater addictions. yuk, yuk

No catch. It's the best bargain around. Get one while they're still @ $399. The guys down in the US pay $700 - $800 US for 15 year old Norinco M14's

When I decide to accurize it with a new barrel and stock, are the parts compatible with what I can buy here?

Editted by Hungry: Stock ? Sure, 3w.boydboys.com has replacement stocks for M1A type rifles (no selector cutouts as per M14 Full Auto config USGI stocks) in Walnut, pepper laminate, and coffee laminate.

Barrel ? What for ? Are you competing at longer ranges ? Save your money... But yes, they can be swapped out since the threads are USGI at the barrel shank, I mean. The factory barrel will print into 2" easily with factory ammo and into 1.25" with handloaded match ammo.

they are a great buy, although the chu wood stock you get with it will bother you. with a stock replacement like the usgi fiberglass you will be much happier with it.

Don't be in a rush to rebarrel. There may be little gained by doing so. If you search this site, you will find a vast amount of information about these rifles. You should be aware that Norinco quality control is sometimes a little erratic. Many owners report having to tweak and adjust the rifles.

the only mod i did to mine is shimming the gas system. And all I can say is that the norinco m14s I have WILL NOT BE my last, I plan to have 1 standard issue, 1 SOCOM 18 1/2 barrelled version, and gonna pick up 2 more simply for the parts and receivers.

We will understand if you are not convinced.....it does sound too good to be true doesn't it?...... maybe you shouldn't get one..... I'll buy yours ...okies?? :D :D :D :p

I Love my M-305 and wouldn't sell it for the world. I am trying to find another 1 already (not that there is anything wrong with mine what so ever) but just in case something happens to it i got a spare. It is buy far the most addicting thing i have ever owned, The fire power, The consistancy, The reliability, The rambo feeling whenyou fire a burst of rounds and i can bring it anywere.

Had one... Sold it... Regretted it EVERY DAY... Until... My beautiful wife bought me another one for my birthday that just past...

I'll never sell this one...

Cheers
Jay

I really enjoy mine—I picked it up last Fall from another member here via the EE. He'd done a bit of work on it—shimmed the gas system, replaced the bolt with a Winchester, and properly indexed the barrel, and still it was (to me at least!) a great deal. I'm not sure that any of these mods had to be done, but I knew I was getting a rifle that was set-up right. I was quite pleased with the appearance of the rifle—it was not as rough as I had been thinking it may have been. "Workmanlike" for sure, but that's what I'd expect. I put a Boyd's pepper laminate stock on it last month (also picked up via the EE), there's a pic here in the Photo Gallery forum.
