norinco m14 barrel life

That is a good question I also want to know the answer from. The barrels are chrome lined so I guess they will last a looooong time. But I´m not the man to answer. My guess is +10.000 rounds with proper cleaning methods.

I think you might be able to buy a new Toyota Corolla with the money you'd spend burning the barrel out on an M305. Although you could certainly accelerate the process by firing too long - too fast

Does bronze brush cleaning (I like to use the bore snakes before and after each shooting session) wear the chrome lining of the barrel faster than not using one at all? Can a bronze brush simply hurt the chrome lining of the barrel?
Sorry for stealing this thread like this.

A bronze brush used properly shouldn't hurt anything. The bronze is much softer than barrel steel or, in this case, chrome plating.

I've owned my Norinco M-14S for about 5 years, and have put thousands of rounds through it. I clean it well, and the rifling is still VERY sharp & clean...pretty impressed with the quality of that $499.00 rifle, never a problem ever.

Yes, so this was my question, is chrome plating tougher than bronze to withstand the brush abrasive action. The bore snake goes through the barrel pretty tight and I don't want to scratch the chrome lining and ultimately to damage the bore beyond repair.

Yes, the chrome lining is much harder than bronze bristles. You cannot hurt the bore with it. The only way you can damage the bore is with aggressive over cleaning and dirt particles trapped between the bore and bristles. Use lots of patches and solvents in between scrubs to reduce the particles.
I prefer the RemClean method where the bristles are wrapped by a patch, Cleans copper and carbon easier and faster than the bristle method.
I've seen bores wore out at the muzzle due to the rod rubbing hard on it and not straight. I recommend a muzzle guard.

Back to barrel life, after 5,000rds accuracy will start to deteriorate, but it will keep shooting on to 10,000 easy. Since that barrel will not be a serious match contender, I wouldn't concern myself until it won't hit the broadside of a barn.

I know of a stainless steel target rifle barrel that lasted 10,000 rounds before the accuracy started to go. A stainless barrel is softer than a hard chromed barrel.

Clean it twice a year and your grandkids will still be shooting it.
