Norinco M14 bolt hardness

My friend and I each bought M14s from Frontier about a month ago and we finally got to bring one of the receivers into the shop. We put it on out Rockwell Hardness tester and we got a reading of 39 Rockwell. A lil disappointing I figured mid 40's. I'm not complaining tho, the guns we got were top notch except for my buddies crooked front sight. Hopefully some pics will follow!
 
The bolts I tested almost 4 years ago at a University lab averaged 46 Rockwell C scale. If I remember low was about 42 and max 48. I shouls have the reports in a box somewhere in the basement....
 
Splatter- theres no problem with the receivers it's the bolt thats soft.

Punkrockboy- we ordered 2 rifles a tthe same time and one of them came with the crooked front site, it's common

The soft bolt issues are associated with the early 1990s norcs that were imported into the U.S.

There are no soft bolt issues with the newer Norcs we are getting.......

As Simonyzer stated, he tested several Norc bolts (as long with a few other CGN'rs) and compared them to USGI bolts a few years back.The Norc bolts were only slightly softer then the USGI bolts, but were within USGI specs for hardness................

So the spreading of incorrect information/rumours regarding the Norc M14s is uneccessary.........

Skullboy how am I spreading incorrect rumors? The hardness of my bolt is a fact and 39 rockwell is not in spec for a USGI bolt.
I took a new rifle at random and tested it and it failed. I would imagine that the Chinese were smart enough to put more than 1 part at a time into the autoclave for heat treat. therefore there are probably alot more guns out there with soft bolts.

So, did you take the reciever in or the bolt?
If you took the bolt, what part(s) did you test?
What do you believe to be the specs for USGI parts?

And for the record, an "autoclave" is used to sterilize stuff like for use in surgery, not to harden or temper steel alloys.
 
I was gonna stay out of this one..... but Splatter pointed out the obvious.... glaring discrepancies in the original post.... that i noticed from the get go..... so.... my response..... after handling over 60 (ie: complete tear downs and reassembly/tuning/conditioning) of the newer imported m14s/m305 rifles.....

I removed the bolt from the receiver and tested the bolt, i will get you the pictures you so desperately need to clarify things on tuesday when i go in.
