Norinco M14 + scope = cheek riser?

Hello All,

I'm putting together this norinco M14 + noname mount? + bushnell 9x40 + some weaver tactical rings I has lying around. I realized that this set up is pretty high (yet just barely clears the rear sight). My question: is a cheek riser pretty much obligatory at this point?

Has anyone avoided a cheek riser by say low mount rings and removing the rear aperture?

I put a Promag (ARMS-18 style) mount on mine, which is the lowest I've been able to find, along with low rings, and I find that without a cheek riser I need to use a chin-weld hold with the plastic Norc stock.

Could also try the Ultimak M8 rail, with a Long Eye relief scope and low rings. That may work

I have an ARMS 18 mount with low ARMS 22 rings on my rig and I still need to use a cheek riser with extra padding to get my eye aligned with a standard stock.

I just tried to order one and it will not ship from Brownells in the US, Ultimak is not a registered exporter. sigh back to drawing board.

I used a leather lace on cheek bag on mine. It looks GI...I have a Boyds nutmeg laminate stock on it, FWIW.
