Norinco M14 to the range today...very happy

After having my Norinco M14 "touched" by Hungry at the Eastern Ontario clinic a few weeks ago I finally took it out to the range today with a fellow CGN'er.

With the shims installed, properly lubed up, and trigger smoothed out (while watching a Sens game ;-) I was able to shoot a few 2-3" 5-shot groups at 100 meters with my handloads (168HPBT over 42.5 gr of IMR4895, FL re-sized of course ;-).

Not bad for open sights (NM front post, Norinco rear sight) and using my pack as a rest.

I am sure that this rifle will shoot better...need to practice more and will also tune these hand loads a bit more.

I swear that even having your M14s in the same room as Hungry will help in accuracy ;-)

I also think that the painted flag on the mags also helped squeeze out an extra 1/4 MOA

Next on the list are new rear sights and also a proper sling.

Outstanding. That is a gorgeous stock. I am hoping one day to get mine over to see "THE MAN". He's a big help but pm's don't seem to have the same effect lmao.

that load is the max load in my lyman book, try working down in .5gr incremints and see if that helps with group size, i found 150gr fmj 41.5gr imr4895 will shoot 1.5moa in my m14,

P.S. I do believe that M14 rifles that have been graced with the presence of "Hungry", do shoot better!!! We better not tell him, for fear it goes to his head & his d**k falls off... HA HA HA!

Report back after you've fired a few hundred more rounds. These rifles need to be worked in before they'll show their proper potential.

Did he firmly whack it on the forehead...........er, forestock, and yell "Let you be healed!"?? Just wondering, divine intervention, and all.

If I do my part, my M14 will shoot 1.5-2 MOA with 45.5 grains of BL-C(2) and a Sierra 150 grain FMJBT with iron sights.

Man, can these rifles shoot! Here is my best 3-shot group from this morning. Open sights, on a bench with my pack as a rest. Same handload as before.

Just over 1.3"!

I believe the biggest improvement since the Clinic was in the trigger pull. I worked on it as recommended and it is much smoother! I am also leaning to hold it just before it breaks.

TomZ: Glad to hear that you are using the M14 Clinic material and gaining from it. Thanks for that range report!!

So when do you want to glass bed that baby into the Boyd's Pepper Laminate? I'm in Ottawa for NSCC around 23-27ish August. Staying in the hard shacks!

Mine can shoot much better than I can any day of the week. These rifles never cease to amaze at how accurate they can be with very little money invested.

Damn that is a great looking stock. I think the flag has to be good for at least a 1/4 as well.
