Norinco M14 value?

Wow, that was back in 2002 (Norc rifles for $400). Back then we could bring in USGI bolts and they dropped into our Norc rifles so easily. If your read the FAQ post by Skullboy found in the above stickies, you will see that they are quite old!

Cheers,
Barney

there were some in the mid 90's being sold for as low as 199.00 , right along side 250.00 to 400.00 converted auto usgi m14s from isreal. back then you could get an sks d model and a crate of norinco silver box fmj for 149.00 LOL
my oh my have times changed.

Yup, a $200 M305 sounds like a real steal today... but consider that one bought in 1995 and stored for 20 years would sell for about $500-$550 now, that equates to a 4.5 - 5% annual return on the investment. Not that far out of line with most other products, I don't think. So I'd argue they're still a very comparable price today at mid-$500's, maybe better as was already mentioned the quality of the new production guns seems to be pretty good/consistent. The laws and/or supply will dry up some day and 20 years from now our kids will be lamenting the fact that Daddy was a dumb ass and didn't buy a crate of them.

So what is the moral of the story? ... Don't be a dumb ass. Buy 'em up, boyz!! LOL

1st Gen 305"s could easily fetch $700. They are a superior rifle over the later ones. They are a different rifle. To a Newbie , they look the same.
I have seen a few of the older slip through the cracks " seller didn't know what he had" ..and sold it for $400 bucks. I have 2 of the very fist ones & have been asked on many occasion to sell. Nope.

I saw the 1st shipment of norinco m14s to canada in Alan Levers store a very long time ago and it seems to me they were 399.99 then, 100 bucks more than....he was selling surplus REAL m14 rifles from israel for, 299.99 non-restricted of course...they were advertised in the Vancouver Sun....

the 1st batch were blued and the side of the receiver was machined at a slant making scope mounting a real challenge....they had some heat treating issues as I recall....soft bolts I think and would suffer headspace after any amount of shooting...

I remember Century International Firearms selling Chinese M-14's (their terms) for $299.00, and yes this is when Lever was selling real M-14's for about the same price. I remember buying a 4 pack from Lever consisting of one of each maker for $899.00 I think.

are u going by rumor or did you actually OWN one- had you delved a little deeper into it you would have seen that the ones imported by alan lever had NO soft bolt issues and aside from no bayonet lug and the angle grind on the scope mount, are STILL a viable rifle- I know, I have no 243- it's also well documented in different's book on the m14- the ones that had soft bolt issues were American imports that got passed to Canada through 3rd parties and also the likes of CLINT MCKEE who was badmouthing everything Chinese at the time as he had his own vested interests i.e. selling his own bolts to upgrade and for that matter the entire gun- the ones that alan got came out of a Different factory- I've had mine since 93 and it has passed hundreds of rounds -in those days we could use 20 round mags , you know- it was not unheard of to do full combat expenditure- 100 rounds at a sitting- that's 4 mags and a fifth in the gun
incidentally, clint McKee owns/owned FULTON ARMORY and was called to the table in a subsequent inquiry in which he admitted he fudged the numbers and used KNOWN soft bolts in his testing- the results of that inquiry went "silent" and his"article " is still present on the internet to this day- I would put no more faith in that man than I would in the chandler bros of texas brigade armory

So with all the back and forth of nonsense/BS in the last couple decades regarding Norinco M14/M305's, what's the general consensus with one from '94?

ya I think you guys are right about the price of the first norincos. I imagine them at 199 but I'm probably mistaken. My first trip to lever arms was in 94, what a magical experience. I haven't been in a gun shop yet that comes close to invoking those types of feelings LOL
Allan Lever was a rock star in my opinion

and t-star , refreshing to read a post that lays the truth out , so much misinformation and bullsh*t out there . I never have and never will buy or use anything "Fulton" .

I've been out of the scene for awhile, and i've noticed some Norinco M14's selling around the $6-700 mark. Did supply die off or did the value of these rifles go up? I remember being able to get a bone stock one for around $200.

Between 6-700 now ?? BLAH .... for that cost it's ...... ah forget it, I'll keep it to myself.

Trade Ex has a package deal on them right now: an M305 and 720 rounds of Hirtenberger ammo for $1095, free shipping!
