is there any reason to consider one over the other, or are they really identical?

any particular reason the Polytech name came out to replace the Norinco name?

I'm looking to buy a clone now (trying to get a friend into the sport, but he's resisting my efforts...but I'm sure if I gift him one of these, he'll get his PAL) and want to make sure I buy a good one.

thanks! :)

I don't think there is any difference. Norinco is not a manufacture (and I assume polytech isn't either) it is a distributer/exporter.
My AR15 says its a norinco for sure on the rifle, but the registration says its a polytech?? That just further reinforces my beliefs that there is no difference between the 2, someone else may have something more helpful to add.

thanks for that, Fred. I've just messaged a guy on the EE with a goodly priced M305.

now let's hope that a) my friend gets his PAL so I can gift this to him properly or b) I enjoy it enough to keep.

If he doesn't like it ...............can I be your friend. I'll look after it good and love it and feed it and clean it and take it for walks....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaseeeeee :)

Back to question, I believe they all come from the same place and its a distributor thing.
Now back to me becoming your bestest friend............:)

Nope, Norinco is in fact, a manufacture. North Industries Corporation manufactures everything from small arms to tanks to missiles.

China Poly Group Corporation, Polytech, is also a defense arms manufacture developed by the Peoples Liberation Army to provide competition for Norinco.

This is actually not true. State Arsenal 356 manufacturers then, Poly and Norinco distributes them

All of you got it wrong!

Different high schools, different shop class, different shop class teachers! :nest: ha ha ha ha ha ha And I'm a high school teacher, I know what comes outta them shop classes! :D

Of course I'm kidding about the high school shop classes, but those of you who already own 1 or 2 (if you took my advice) or 3 (like Chalkriver) then you know what I mean. :)

Cheers and keep helping out the newbies here! :ar15:
