Big JD-From the hills said:I know that my norinco 1911 .45 was junk. The Fit of the barrel was my biggest complaint. It had play every wich way you could emagine. The barrel bushing was so loose in the slide, and out of round I could have made a better one with an angle grinder. The barrel hood had about 1/16" of clearance on the sides, and depending on wich side it settled on the groups were 6" left or right at 25 yards(and also 6 in diameter). And the lockup on the slide stop.... unreal sloppy! Also the extractor was out of tune... when I got that right it was half ass reliable atleast.
With about $500 worth of parts/smithing it could of been ok in my books... but still would be a norinco.
With my experience I can say they are crap. A new guy at our club bought one for his first pistol... the fit is a little better than mine was... but still the group is all over the place. I hope the bad experience doesn't turn him away from shooting.
My advice: If your going to go cheap, get a used ruger mk 2, or even a new mk3 in your choice of configuration for your first gun.

My 1911 came with 'plastic toys' grips and a coat of factory grease that could have survived several generations. Once the grips were replaced and the bugger stripped down and cleaned... I'm still lovin it! And it cost less than an iPod!!
I've fed it over 3000 rounds of hardball and the only time I've experienced a jam is after 300+ rounds of cheap reaload has passed through it between cleanings. An occasional stovepipe is nothing. Gawd forbid I own a $1400 HK, have to feed it jacketed ammo and it too jams![]()
