So got the m305a the other day. Seems ok and accurate ( till barrell got hot anyhow plus was shooting like crap ) , anyhow , the bolt don't stay open on empty or anything. There is the bolt catch tab thing there but looks like just for cosmetics ?

Anyone know if it's possibly to rectify this ? Rather straightforward or just live with it ??

Hi mate.
On the M305A the bolt catch has been replaced by an ejector.
The only way to have the bolt hold on last round is to find a magazine with a follower that act like that.
 
The bolt catch should work. It's either a problem with the magazine or the catch. Make sure you have seated the mag firmly on insertion. Do you have access to other magazines?

Ya. I'm not sure. Prior to cleaning it or so I was able to manipulate the bolt catch with a pen or something and get it to catch. Now it don't want to at all. Ya , running 2 styles of mags , 30 round metal ones - don't know who's and magpuls 10-20 versions. Settling on the 20 round magpuls , yeah I have to grind down some of the top and sides to make fit and definatley give it a firm slap in like I'm in Nam or something.

Both style of mags do not activate catch , but will look again when home.
 
The 7.62x39 M305a does not have a functional bolt hold open. Nothing you do will make it hold open other than as sidester mentioned you find a magazine that has the follower that catches the bolt and then it will close as soon as the magazine is removed.
 
I wanted to ask as well will the madwedge enhanced bolt release allow the M305a to be manually held open? Iv seen it advertised as such by a local store but I’m not so sure
 
It might, but you will have ejection problems since the Bolt stop is now the ejector.....

So if you turn the Bolt stop, back into a bolt stop, what will be the ejector?

Do you happen to know if their that different in shape? I’m pretty green at this so I’m not sure how different they would be.
 
I haven’t had one on the bench and apart to fully examine the different dimensions, but they are obviously a different shape when you have a 308 model in one hand and a x39 model in the other.....
