Hello all

My first post, lots of great info here.

I have had my 305 for about 2.5 months. Once and awhile the first round wouldn't load properly, I would let go of the action and it would get stuck half way, a little nudge of the rod and in it went, I thought it was me, you know following the rod with my finger or something like that, but now it seems to happen more than it doesn't. It cycles fine when shooting. It is only the first round it happens on. Does anyone know if it is a common occurrence with the M305? It seems like a magazine issue to me. Just worried about it firing when it isn't fully in the chamber.

..

I'm sure that there are some better people to answer this than me but:

Magazine seated properly
Rounds seated to the back of the magazine
Not riding the charging handle back

That's what immediately springs to my mind at least.

Does it happen with both/all magazines?

Something to consider:

Are you pulling the op rod all the way back and releasing sharply? I've had a similar problem before when shooting with a buddy. He didn't let go of the op rod quickly enough, but would somewhat 'nurse' it back the first inch or so before releasing and it wouldn't close properly as the round wasn't seated properly in the chamber.

Also: has the action been properly cleaned, and then, oiled/greased as appropriate? (a dirty action, or a clean but bone-dry action, will have more friction than it should)

With a factory Norc, sometimes the springs are a little weaker than the USGI. I had that same problem with mine when I replaced the bolt - except after the first one. The second, third or forth one would do that. I replaced the Oprod Spring and problem solved. As stated earlier, pull back all the way - really tighten that spring so it snaps shut - with lots of force. These rifles are not like other commercial semi's - they are not meant to be babied with a soft touch. (The whole piston/oprod/bolt is actually quite a violent action when you think of all the slamming and forces exerted on the components - just like the Garand - a helluva workhorse!)

I am assuming that you are using factory ammo (if not, it could be your powder/bullet measures and such, but worry about one thing first. Pull'er back and let it slam shut.

I think it's all been said in the above posts but sounds like a spring or riding the bolt issue. Pull it back to the rear and let her fly! Nothing on these rifles should be done lightly.. Mighty hammer of stoppage baby!

It wouldn't happen to be Americian eagle ammo would it?

For some reason it likes to hang up on me I use cheapo MFS and it works just fine everything else works fine as well.

As long as you can just tap the rifle and it goes into battery whats the problem I do it out of habit with all my firearms or at least 90 percent of them pull back tap foward, hand on trigger fire.

thanks for the replies, I am just worried about it firing out of battery, I don't believe I am riding the op rod, but maybe, I think Ill replace the spring anyway. what could it hurt right.
