Hello;

Lots of talk about the Norinco (M305/M14) rifles, I'm getting a little confused. Are these restricted? Second, these are a direct copy of the Springfield M1 rifles right? If so are most of the parts, accessories and magazines interchangeable? I think I have seen people refer to their guns as M305's and M14's in the same thread but are they the same gun? And is there anyone that has these out west (Vancouver) that is competitive with Marstar's price? oh, what can one expect to pay for a nice used one; i.e. do they hold their value?

Sorry about the long list of q's but these interest me as they seem to have a rep as a fun, inexpensive little gun.

Thanks!

M305/M-14 is the same animal. Some were marked M-14/M-14S/M305.

The odd part isn't interchangable (Norinco castle nut is metric) but 99% of the parts are.

Marstar has the best price that I know of and for used there are a couple for sale in the Black Rifle Exchange. They seem to hold value well.

The Norinco IS NOT a copy of the Springfield M1A. It is a copy of the USGI M-14...and it does a better job of copying it than the civilian gun manufacturer Springfield Armory which produces the M1A, SOCOM, etc... which are known for their cast & out of spec receivers as opposed to the Norico forged and within spec receivers.

For used Norcs, check the CGN exchange forum for military rifles. If you'd asked a day earlier, I coulda' given you a deal on my spare M-14S/M305!

For new rifles, I don't think there's another dealer who can touch Marstar's prices.

some retard advertising?

yeah I couldn't figure that one out either? looks like they only posted in my thread too!

Thanks for the info, I originally considered the ar 15's but if I can get a non-restricted rifle all the better! until I can afford both of course!

You might be better off getting one from Marstar. I'm pretty sure they have the lowest price for a brand new unit, and you won't have to pay the PST on the item either because you're not in the same province (go figure, it's cheaper to buy something from another province then your local gun shop). Unless that 7% of what you'd pay from a Vancouver shop ends up being more than what shipping would be from Marstar.

Another good idea is to buy a used one from the exchange forum, lots of them come up from time to time, usually with a few hundred rounds fired off and a few nice upgrades (i.e. USGI op rod, USGI spring, USGI stock (sometimes with a fancy paint job). Unless you're really specific with what you want to do with it, that might be the way to go, although for new M14S/M305 you can't beat $400 plus tax.

If you're into the AR scene, check out the AR180B at Wolverine Supplies (www.wolverinesupplies.com). They have some other fancy shamchy non-restricted rifles there as well, but M305 is cheaper than any of them. Either way, it's a lot of fun customizing your M14 to suit your likes and needs, you can have a real nice setup, optics included for under $1000.

Thanks Archibald;

as a full time student cost is a factor I figure the 305 is a good introduction to the sport. I would love to shop locally but "the" shop around here is asking $700 + tax for the 305. Unfortunatly Marstar won't have the 305s in stock for a few more weeks but that gives me some time to collect the few goodies I will need to customize the rifle once I fianlly get it. I need to take a few deep breaths and resist the temptation to blow my student loan on the black special in the for sale section!

btw. is there a main supplier of USGI upgrades in Canada?

I think if you're on a budget, then the M14S is the way to go. It's good to go out of the box, and you can buy extras as you go one at a time if need-be. There are lots of guys on CGN that have all kinds of goodies, and there are several USGI fiberglass stocks in the exchange forum all the time which can be had for well under $100. For most of them you'll just need to strip the paint, and paint it up however you like, the spray paint at Canadian Tire works well, just check out the sticky's at the top of the Main Battle Rifles forum for instructions. You can go wood too for that retro look, some guys have even cleaned up the Norinco stock and have it looking nice (which is also nice if you're on a budget). Get some surplus ammo from Wolverine or Districorp, and you're in the game. Another nice thing about the M14S is that with that .308 round it's good to go if you hunt big game, or plan on hunting at some point (I know it's hard right now as you're busy with school).

Dark might be a touch more but I believe you get a couple of 5/20 mags with it rather than the one you get from Marstar. Plus I believe that Dark has them in stock at present and, when I last heard, Marstar was still on order.

Dark? is this code?

I bought my M305 from dark...very good service from them.

Came with kit, 2 5 rounds and 1 5/20 round mags.

Like BigUglyMan said...they are a little more...but they do have them in stock.

Secondgen,
I got into the sport buy purchasing a VZ58 from Milarm for $375 (in the specials section). Very nice deal as I'm a student as well.
I'm also in the process of getting a minty SKS from a fellow Gun Nut for like $165 all in.
You just gotta shop around and be patient :wink:

thanks

Thanks for all the good advice. I have so many projects on the go that the low initial cost of the 305 is ver appealing. I may just look for a good deal in the for sale section until Marstar gets their new shippment in.

Thanks Again!
