What do you guys think is the best way to refinish a nork m14 stock? Mine is quite oil stained and blotchy. I was thinking just sand it and re-oil, but then I saw something about using 'easy-off' (no sand paper).
Easy-Off is a good start, it removes the surface oil pretty well. You really need to "sweat-out_ the deeper oil. Rap mthe stock in paper towels and put ot someplace really warm. The trunk of a black car in the summer kind of hot.
Don't use your regular oven, the oil is quite foul smelling. I was really quite surprised at the quantity of oil the came out of my stocks.
Sure, why wouldn't you? It's not like field stipping an M14 is difficult. And if you have done any serious epoxy bedding without refinishing the stock, it's not like you are going to be repeatedly assembling and disassembling the rifle. Take it apart, refinish, put it together.
Great job Bob. My Sage is a bit different than yours. The butt pad on mine flips up and rotates. I'll post pics later. BTW, where did you get the King Arms RAS?
Turf. my buttpad did the same but I locked it in place with a screw because I didn't want the homemade check piece to move. The RAS I got from Illusions on the airsoftcanada site . It fits snug but I have to do a little grinding as the op rod handle just kiss's it. Shot it a little yesterday but the Aimpoint needs a new battery, the red dot looks ok in the basement but hard to find in the bright sunlight...Bob
Been playing with that rig the past two outings and have no major troubles with it. Had to wrap a shim around the receiver screw as the hole in the mount was a little larger, to get rid of any play. Also had to dremel some metal off the mount on the op rod side as it was being hit. But I like it and getting 2" groups at 100yd with IVI not counting the odd flier.Just have to make my homemade cheek piece.a little longer..Bob
