Good day. I was hoping someone could chime in. I have a Norinco M4. I love it, and have had zero problems. Recently I was doing some maintenance and noticed that the castle nut on the buffer was loose. I don't have an AR wrench so used what was handy. Thing is, it easly loosens with handling. How tight should I torque this? Can I use Lock-Tite?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Castle nut

There's a set screw to hold in place, tighten it till it's snug just past where the set screw can go in and back off. Set screw will hold it in place.

That would be an M4 castle nut, at the buffer tube / sliding butt stock,
NOT an M14 castle nut at the flash hider.

I use BLUE loctite, AND a self striking machinest's center punch to stake the threads at a few of the slots at the castle nut.

this is one of the most common points of failure on any M4, not just the Norcs.

I haven't had to resort to loctite yet, but I might. Haven't really gotten all that much shooting time with my Norc yet.

I did pick up the "proper" castle nut wrench at Epps for about 10 bucks. The other end is a 1911 bushing wrench which happens to be handy for me.

Princess Auto also has an adjustable castle nut wrench for about $20 bucks.

But, you should be able to tighten it with a hammer and punch too. I have the purpose wrench but I am not sure I really needed it.
