The temp squeaked above zero this afternoon, so I did a quick test of three different ammo types I had on hand. It was 2C, and there was a breeze at 90 degrees right to left at about 5mph.

Prior to this I had received, stripped, cleaned and oiled the rifle, fired about fifty rounds of PMC 55gr through it to try it out and zero the scope, and then did the 15 minute AR trigger job mentioned in another thread. So far function is 100%, and I haven't cleaned the bore (or anything else) yet.

Shooting was done at 100m off a bench with a front sandbag, and I tried to shoot the 5 round strings without shifting position or grip. Being that I'm no benchrester, I'm sure that these groups could be made significantly smaller by someone with more experience.

Anyhoo, first up was the green tip 62gr PMC. I expected somewhat better results, as I saw smaller groups with the 55gr stuff when I was sighting it in.

Then I loaded up the Ruag 63gr, and was quite disappointed in these as it should be the optimum bullet weight, plus it's the most expensive.

After that I fired another 10 rounds of the 55gr PMC as control groups, and once again it had the best group sizes (see 1st pic for second group).

Not definitive results by any means, but there is a noticeable difference between the different ammo types. I have a couple of boxes of WWB and UMC 55gr rounds that I'll hopefully try tomorrow and see if they're much better or worse.

Initial groups from sighting in can be found here: http://canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3075726&postcount=47

I would really like if you could also try S&B 55 grain cheapies if you can. In my Stag @ 100 meters it prints (give or take a bit) 1" & half groups on my bipod while sitting at the bench. It would be interesting to see the difference between to two barrels. Although when I use the PMC 55 grain ones it looks quite similar to the ones you are displaying.

I'm hoping to get some S&B in the next week or so, and I'll definitely add those results once I get them done. I'll probably redo the entire shoot once I have 6 or 7 different ammo types, as well as get a rear bag to take me a bit further out of the equation.
