I just got my Norinco M4 , I notice there is some play between the upper and the lower.

Is there any way to rmove this slop. I was thinking about a new set of receiver pins from brownells??? or how about an acu-wedge?????? would this work??????? any ideas??????????????

are the receiver, and pivot pins .250" or .315" on the Norico, anybody know???????

Let me know people.....

.

As best as I can tell it is purely a preference thing. This seems to be Zediker's thoughts on it as well. Some feel the wobble and it plays mind games. Those that don't worry about it, may not have any issues. In the shooting I do, the wobble does not bother me at all, though my ARs are fairly tight. Well, except for my stag.

As far as removing it. Accuwedge. Or bed the lower, or get a ATRS lower with the pin. All will get rid of the play with varying durability. If I was going to do it, I'd bed it, but that is more because I like to glue things that I can't weld.

What? Bed an AR? What in the world are you talking about?

C'mon. You know that everything that can be done in the name of small arms has been done to an AR.

It is actually fairly common in some circles. Especially on AR-10s. The Upper is coated in release agent. The lower is scuffed below the rear upper lug. Epoxy is applied to the lower under the rear lug, and the halfs are assembled(with a nylon bolt if paranoid.
It looks like this when it is done:

I can't remember where I ripped the pic off from, and like I say, I can't say I see that it solves much.

And bedding this way is functionaly different from an Accuwedge how?????

The small amount of slop has zero effect on shooting UNLESS you use a sling. So the simple answer is don't use a sling and there won't be a problem! All of the above are a waste of time. There is a reason almost everyone on the Bisley SR team takes OUT the accu-wedge.

Tensioning a sling will only affect a rifle that has the sling attached to the barrel directly or indirectly.
The varience between the upper and lower will only affect those shooters that choose not to hang onto both halves while shooting.
An example of this, is if you shoot off of a bipod and hang onto only the lower, shot to shot mpi could very well change.
My recommendation is to not treat an AR like a bolt gun. They be different.

Install an accu-wedge. Its the cheapest and fastest way to tighten up the play.
The only thing is that every time you want to separate the upper from the lower, you have to use a punch to knock the pin out.

Why does it have an impact if you use a sling? Many of the US American service rifle shooters I talked to about it, use a sling and still say that slop is meaningless.

In my experience you will get a wandering zero, unless you think you can put the exact same amount of tension on the sling each time you shoulder the rifle.

That is going to happen with a sling attached to the barrel regardless of the upper to lower fitment.
If you float the barrel and attach the sling to the float tube (or any other portion of the rifle other than the barrel) there is no chance of poi change that can be attributed to sling use.
