I was handling my rifle in the shop and the sling fell off.

The rear swivel is held onto the toe of the butt plate with a screw. The screw fell off, releasing the sling.

I suspect many other AR type butt plates use a similar screw to hold the swivel tab in place.

I was lucky. The rifle did not hit the ground and the screw was easy to find. I have put it back in with a dab of Lok-Tite that IT SHOULD HAVE HAD IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Seems there is a run on Loc-Tite in China.

Most of those screws have a dab of blue as standard equipment when issued. It engages when installed. At least the military screws do.

Yet another reason to ditch the sling.

I often remove screws on rifles and handguns and give them a dab of Blue.

My posting was to alert folks of this particular screw. If it falls out in the field the screw would be lost , a scope might get damaged and the muzzle might get plugged.

A dab of Blue is real cheap insurance.
