I have been having some issues with light firing pin strikes in the last few months on my Norinco M93 Woodsman copy and things have progressively gotten worse up until my range trip last week when I noticed this after having trouble with many FTFs:

The firing pin is just kinda loose in there and I can move it freely back and forth by hand or even just by shaking it. Is this worth fixing or an easy fix? Not sure what would make the firing pin let go like that?

Anyways I'd appreciate any feedback on this issue and whether anyone else has seen this problem.

most likely the end of the firing pin probly broke off. you might be able to have it welded back up (or maybe some JB-weld) depending on exactly how/where it broke, or maybe a norinco dealer could order a new firing pin.
best bet would be to take it apart to see exactly whats wrong with it though, just make sure you follow the instructions when taking these apart. and be gentle with the slide becouse as i found out a couple times if you dislodge the recoil spring right beside the firing pin it is a pain in the @ss to get back in.

this is what the firing pin should look like.

How many rounds have you put through it? I would agree that it sounds like the pin part of that piece has broken free from the rear section. It would probably be weldable with the right prep and then to grind it all back to the correct shape, just make sure it goes on strait first. Finish couldn't be any worse than you would normally find in a norc anyways.

Interesting. Never seen that happen.

Most likely if you field strip the pistol you will find that rear portion of the firing pin containing the 'wing' has broken off and is floating somewhere inside. Possibly still even inside the firing pin channel in the slide.

Possibly the light strikes were occurring during the slow process of that portion breaking off. The wing is what engages the firing pin block safety on the frame, though it also serves to limit forward motion of the firing pin. Now, the forward portion of the pin is floating in the firing pin channel, resulting in that odd condition that you photographed.

I'd try to get it warrantied by the retailer. Might be tough to find a replacement part on your own. I would not be confident about repairing it, but if you're handy there's nothing really to lose by trying. Just be sure to take pics of the broken part before doing so in case it can be warrantied.

There is a good youtube video on field stripping, and another explaining slide reassembly (re-seating that troublesome recoil spring). Written instructions under the Takedown/Assembly tab here:

I originally purchased this pistol in September 2010. I would take a guess and say that I probably have about 3000 rounds through it.

I am going to try and take it apart and see what I can do. i doubt trying to find parts would be possible for a Norinco.

Would Colt parts be interchangeable?

Mine has always had light strikes, bump fires, failures to extract. It rarely fires a full magazine of ANY brand of ammo without a failure to fire or extract.

Mine is a POS, YMMV.

the colt woodsman has a diferent fining pin. i would say contact few of the norc dealers on here like maybe Marstar, SFRC,Fronteir Firearms, ext. and maybe they could find or order one in for you. its just a chinese firing pin so it shouldnt be too expensive.

and you could also put a add up on here looking for one also under pistol parts exchange.

I took the slide apart and its definately a broken firing pin.

I guess I'll try and get a new firing pin or make an attempt at fixing this one.

Yeah, you might as well ask the usual suspects. I wouldn't get my hopes up about finding a standalone part, though.

You might have better luck finding someone selling an m93 as a parts gun. Of course, you might also just sell yours as a parts gun and buy a new pistol.

Did you dry fire the pistol on an empty chamber? A lot of older .22 LR firearms don't like being dry fired as the firing pin can whack the edge of the chamber and sometimes break. I keep snap caps in my M93.

I use a couple layers of tape across the chamber mouth. Works like a champ, simplifies recocking.

Have you tried smoothing up the internals? Might turn that problem child right around.

No I haven't. It was worked on by 2 gunsmiths. Part of it is that I find re-assembling the little fcuker to be a PITA ;). I just use it for teaching failure clearing to new shooters. I have a Beretta 71 that NEVER fails to feed or extract so the M93 is really a paperweight.

Haha, I hear you. I'd take that paperweight off your hands... Priced accordingly, of course... ;)

I have a Norinco Woodsman and so does my buddy. He has always had light strikes, FTE, FTF etc. He found he can only really run a few types of ammo and it will run somewhat reliable, and even then it seems to have a few issues per clip. Mine has ran great. I get the odd ftf etc etc but its been far better than his. Its like I lucked out and got a decent one and he didn't. For me its the best $150 I've spent on range/gun gear. Lots of fun and cheap to shoot. And I'm happy with how accurate I can be with it. I feel bad he got a dud. Anyway hope it works out for you man. Keep us posted on the results :)

All my Norcs have had questionable firing pins, both my AR-15 and 870 copies had stock firing pins break. Those were easily remedied as parts are easily found, don't know how you will find one for the M93 but good luck :p

I have fired well over 5k rounds through my M95 and never had a FTF or FTE.I have tryed all the bulk .22 ammo as well. Most of these firearms work great so if the one you got is bad then you just got a lemon and should have returned it.
As for the Op,I would email John at Marstar he would prob be the best bet in having a firing pin on hand.
