Recently got a SAM 1911 Commander in 9mm - very happy with this gun overall. Fit and finish are great for the price, and I have no complaints.

However... I also bought two Norinco 1911 9mm mags, and they both exhibit the same problem - the last round will not load. The slide stays to the rear as if the mag was empty, and if I manually finish the cycle it then loads the last round. This happened every time, always on only the last round, and only with the Norinco mags.

Upon inspection the paint on the followers was a little rough, so I smoothed that out, lubed the follower and lips, and that was when I started getting the occasional succesful cycle on the last round, but it still fails the majority (roughly 9/10) of the time.

I'm really far from an expert on handguns at all, or the 1911 specifically, so I thought I'd throw this up and see what those more experienced might have as ideas. Thanks in advance.

This is a problem either with the mag follower or the stud on the SAM's slide stop is a little bit large where it engages the mag follower. In your place I'd carefully compare the SAM and Norc mags to see if I could bring the NORCs into a better configuration...just a tiny bend in the mag follower is all it might take. If the problem is the slide stop, I'd leave the situation alone as any alterations there _might_ cause problems with the SAM mags.

I tried putting a bend into the follower to more closely match that of the SAM mag; hasn't helped. I'll continue to see if I can do anything to the Norc mags but it looks like I should have just waited for SAM mags to be in stock in the first place.

Thanks!

If you don't want to wait, marstar shows mec gar 1911 9mm mags in stock for $30 plus shipping. I just got 4 in the mail from them a couple of days ago. I think shipping was $15. The mec gar mag was what my Sam came with, they are nicely made.
