I've been looking around for an inexpensive 9mm ( and I don't like glocks), I already have a Beretta 96A1, and a Norinco 1911, ( I love both of them ). I am in no way averse to Norinco as a brand, and I've bought several Norinco Firearms and haven't had any problems. I am more or less curious if anyone has had experience with both the Norinco NP-22 9MM and Ruger SR9 and which they would recommend?

I have an np22, works just fine. Had a better trigger than a p226 I tried in the shop, even better since I added the sig SRT trigger kit (drop in). Sights were off when new, and had to have a smith adjust, they were so tight. I think it's one of norincos better efforts.

Have had both. SR9 is just plain strange. NP-22 was to big for my hands. NP-29 is the ticket for a Norc 9mm.

Best bang for the buck (IMHO) is a CZ75 or 85.

You mean CZ 75... I have a CZ 75 SP01 Shadowline and a CZ 85 Combat and so far, very reliable. I've tried and SR9, not bad for the price. But I am not a fan of polymer pistols. They are reliable, but steel is my preference. If ever I will buy a polymer pistol, it might be a G17L or a G34.

If you like the feel of your Beretta 96, you could look into a Girsan yavuz for around the same price as the Ruger. It's a Turkish clone of the Beretta 92

SR9 over both Norincos. Great, accurate, reliable and only a few bucks more. Plus its not Chinese, and there are parts availaible both factory and aftermarket.

SAM 1911 is really nice too as is the Girsan 92f copy.

I have had both the NP22 and the SR9 and the answer is the CZ75.

Okay between the two:

NP22 has a heavy double action trigger and out of the box it will take some hundred rounds to make palatable.
SR9 has a lighter trigger but it is also squishy and includes the 'safety' pre trigger. SR9 in general has an overabundance of safety features
Different for everyone but I prefer the larger NP22. The SR9 is a lighter gun and would probably be a comfortable carry piece however I found it harder to keep from jumping around. Also the slide doesn't really have a good grab surface for slingshot style racking. NP22 is big and fat and has plenty of surfaces. NP22 also has the nice deocking lever, something I wish my CZ had. SR9 of course is striker fired.

I bought an SR9 and hated it from day one...trigger was horrible, build quality was cheap as you can get, couldn't hit #### with it. I said one day I will shoot it first, so I don't get spoiled on decent triggers and have to compensate, start with the ####ty one first....made a BIG difference today, dropping plates like a mad man with it at 25m. It may have won me over....at least going to keep it around for a bit.
My NP29 howerver is going on sale shortly....shoots fine, just done with the "cheap gun love affairs"...lol

Hitzy, do yourself a favour. Clean up the striker channel, striker and anything else you can find that makes contact or causes grit in the system. I was where you are, at first it was horrible, but now its very nice!! I like it better than any other striker fired pistol I have used. I haven't been able to actually fire a PPQ tho, so maybe that's better. It has a nicer trigger than some cheap hammer guns too. Some by quite a bit. As for accuracy, mine has been quite good. I was better with my Girsan, and my 1911, and other peoples CZ etc, but since I have concentrated and have had some instruction, it is just as accurate, if not more so than those. And not just in my hands either.

I have two problems with this gun. one is that the safety and slide release are just cheap stamped steel. Not a deal breaker but I would prefer something nicer. The second and by far bigger deal is the slide/frame fit. its loose and sloppy. You can see the slide move in relation to the frame if you squeeze the trigger nice and slow and pay attention. It has smoothed out considerably since new, so I am happy with that, but the slop is still there.

I don't think we can do anything about slide/frame fit in these.... The controls...maybe aftermarket will provide something eventually.
If there was a distinct "stage" in the stacking of the trigger I would be much more effective with it. I suck shooting straight double action pistol as well...first shot with a da/as pistol is either a warning shot, or a very very slow aimed frustrating affair to hit paper lol
I don't find the trigger on the SR9 heavy, just long and creepy with no feedback when it will break. Even what I did today was kind of cheating but it worked well for me. I would take up about half the stack, then just pull right through kind of hard. Slow process, but at least I was hitting well with it. It handles 9mm very well for a poly gun.
