Have a quick question, and kinda wanted to throw it out there.

Went to the range this morning to try out my new NP 29. (it is a Norinco single stack 1911 in 9 mm)

i only had ####ty reloaded bulk ammo(115gr FMJ), with me. I will try factory loads next time.

anyway, with ####ty bulk ammo, it never fired more than 2 rounds consecutively. it almost always failed to feed properly.

the nose of the bullet sort of gets stuck on the barrel ramp, and prevents slide to close.

so i pull the slide back, the bullet pops out and next round goes in fine. it shoots, then the next round again, stuck on the ramp.

nothing else wrong with the gun. it may possibly be the bullet. (or mags. i'll buy a springfield mag or something and try it out)

thoughts? besides polishing the feed ramp on the barrel and frame, that is.

thanks.

it sure kicks harder than my GSG 1911... (and much harder than i remember a 9mm Beretta kicking..)

Western munition remanufactured rounds.

One of the bullets actually popped into the casing itself when the nose hit the barrel ramp

Before you get too upset, understand that 9mm and the 1911 are not a perfect fit. The magazine is often the problem. With the spacer at the back of the magazine, the round is at a bit of a steeper angle.

If possible, try to find a Metalform or Tripp magazine with the spacer at the front and the built in ramp. It might make all the difference without carving on your gun.

Try a different magazine, different ammunition.
You know that the ammunition is shztty becasue it doesn't work in other 9mms either?
Don't start working on the gun until you find out what the problem is.

I had the same issues with mine, however mine is well used. It turned out the extractor needed to be tuned "tighter"

Do a google search on how to tension an extractor and give that a try. I had feeding and ejection issues (right back into my forehead) and both were fixed by making sure the extractor was working properly.

GSG kicks like a pellet gun.
NP29, G17, 92F all kicks about the same, which isn't much once you start shooting 45s and 357s.

Are you using round nose or rounded flat nose bullets? My NP28 will not feed any type of flat pointed bullet. The feed ramp is too steep and it just crashes. Use only round nose bullets and your good.

thanks for replies and suggestions guys.

i'm heading to my range on tuesday, so i'll try factory ammo this time, first.

if it keeps happening, extractor, and ramp polish...

then, mags..

:p

STOP USING THAT AMMO RIGHT NOW! ! ! !

When a bullet can jump back in the casing like that the reduction in case volume can create super high peak pressures that can easily result in a KABOOM! situation.

Sure, the one you found jammed. But what if it has chambered and you fired it? THe higher peak pressure created COULD result in a blown up barrel and other parts.

Return the unused portion along with that pushed in bullet for a refund. It's not simply cheap. It's highly dangerous.

just an update.

brought American Eagle factory ammo.

I can't say it wasn't flawless. it did occasionally have feeding issues. but absolutely workable.

Not like the remanufactured junk i had(still have.. :( ) where it would fail to feed on every other round.

I will run another box of factory, just very slightly polish the feed ramp.

BTW, Uplula loader FTW@@@!!! love it.

Glad your gun is working better :)

One thing about 1911's is they really like their oil. Any time mine start to slow down, first thing I do is pull the top end off and oil the heck out of the rails.

Have fun :D

My NP29 came with what feels like a 16.5 pound recoil spring...similar to the 45 acp versions.

I replaced with a 13 or 14 lb spring (my guesstimate from the springs in my junk pile). NP29 cycled 100% reliable after the recoil spring switch.

I only shoot my reloads, btw.

Another thing I noticed is that the frame and slide felt and looked rougher on the inside (rails, barrel lugs) than any of my four 45s. Rough frame to slide fit could be slowing down the action as well, causing the cycling problems I had earlier. But this issue will go away with more rounds down the pipe.

Feeding issue Almost gone

Went to the range with another box of AE factory 115 gr, and box of remanufactured stuff.

I polished the feed ramp slightly(for 2nd time) for this outings, and i have to say, it was much much better experience.

out of the factory 50 rounds, I think i had 1 or 2 failure to feed.

out of the remanufactured(western munition), i had around 5. (+- couple) failure to feed.

(No other types of failure, whatsoever.. no mag issue, no ejection issue, no firing issue.!!!)

it's much better than before where it would fail to feed on every other round.

And i'm liking the gun more and more.

I'm making slight adjustments to the gun after each range trip. sanding rough edges i find uncomfortable after each trip.

the slide exterior was "smoothed" with 2000 grit sandpaper on a stone block. it doesn't look good, but feels pretty nice. doesn't have that sharpness on the serrations anymore.

and it is pretty accurate. as i got used to the recoil, the accuracy really improved. at 10 yrd, standing free-2-hand-grip, i can get grouping about 3 inches. (yeah, yeah, i suck and, you can get 0.5 inch at 25 yard, one handed and blind folded.:D)

when i first got it, i didn't like it as much as the GSG 1911 . but now, after all the adjustments i made(feed ramp, slide smoothing, internal component smoothing), I look forward to shooting this more than the GSG.

I guess i don't mind the recoil as much as i thought after all... . and maybe a .45 1911 is in my future. (but next one would have to be good out of the factory. :p )

Feeding issue, 1%.

polished feed ramp one more time, before my latest range trip.

out of 100 rounds fired, 1 failure to feed. 1. NO other failure.

from failing to feed every other rounds, (almost 50% failure) to 1 out of 100 rounds.

LOVE THIS GUN!!

(Also, love my Savage 64..)
