Norinco NP-30N (Hi cap 45)

I would stay away from them. 1911s work best in the traditional configuration: single stack, 5" barrel, and .45 ACP. Furthermore, the Norinco is a proprietary design with magazines and parts unique to it. That said, the single stack Norincos are a good value for the money.
 
I thought they take para mags. I have been wrong before!

I have heard good things about the Dark 40. Dark industries in Ontario I think they are called. They are Norincos made to their spec. Know a few guys that shoot standard IPSC with them and they love them. Gunsmith in ON brings them in and goes over them before they go out. Consider that one too. Course their more money, but they run and they are in a different class as well.

AFAIK. The NP-30 series, only accept Norinco mags.

Be aware that the nickelled NP-30N, is a series 80 style pistol. Meaning that it has the trigger block safety, with the associated extra bits.

The blued NP-30 is a series 70 style. Without the extra bits.

I have a NP-30 and a NP-30N. Both pistols are reliable, accurate shooters.
I currently have 8 magazine shared between the guns. All feed/function without issues.

You gotta have big hands for the double-stack NP30N grip.

Getting the 9th and 10th round into the mags requires some pressure.

I owned my NP30N for about a year and then got rid of it and moved on.

My initial interest in the nickel finish did not last.
 
Thanks for all the feed back. The nickle finish is what really caught my attention. Marstar is sold out of the Nickle finish in single stack configuration. The double stack description boasted "thinner grips so the grip is almost the same size as standard". They also have a "sport" model in two tone, which has a number of "upgrades". I'm really only looking for a cheap 45 to use some odd 700 rounds of reloads that are laying around.
 
That is true, especially with the flat MSH.

For your purpose, perhaps the best option is to look for a standard Norinco 1911A1 style pistol.
The EE is a good place to start.

One fellow locally has one of these. I have never seen it complete an IDPA match without repeated failures. The mag issue is very real- it is Norinco or nothing.

Stay away from this particular model.
