I just checked the Production Class Legal gun list on www.ipsc.org and while the Norinco NZ-85B IS listed (9mm CZ-85B clone) the NP-40 (.40 clone of the same gun) is NOT listed .

To my knowlege, the Norinco's are not sold in the US due to the Chinese weapons ban, so this might explain why it is not listed.

Question: Would the NP-40 be legal within IPSC-Ontario rules to compete in Production class in Ontario?

Actually the US uses USPSA rules (not IPSC) so that would not have an effect...

As far as IPSC Ontario...we obvioulsy follow the IPSC rules, so if it's not on the approved list...you can't use it in Production...

I'd suggst going over to the IPSC Global Village and post a question to Vice Pinto to see about getting it added to the list. It's a knock-off of an approved CZ (85B) so I there's probably no reason it can't be approved...(unless someone who knows more about these guns can fill us in...Omen?)

No one said the rules make sense...but they are the rules

Cheers

Thanks for the heads up. Below is the response I got from Vince - informative in case anyone else is wondering why their gun might not be listed.

"On paper, the NP-40 looks suitable for Production Division however we no longer approve guns unless a member of the PD Committee can physically handle a sample unit. To date, we've been unable to do so, and that is why the NP-40 cannot yet be considered."

we had someone with that gun in Ont Provincials 2005, and it was disallowed in the end, because it wasn't on the list...
