Norinco NP29 1911 9mm

Basically. Some that attach to the trigger guard, or systems like the "recover tactical" grip/rail system, which are fugly, but better than drilling holes on a frame IMHO.

Agreed.. I don't like the grip-rail or even the trigger-rail systems they have.. even the Bolt on rail... that's why I was wondering if a shop can mill in a rail.. not necessarily a weaver/picatinni... but the rails that glocks have...

Can't believe there's enough meat left on the dust cover to machine anything....profile for a rail is substantially different...a well fitted bolt on will be the only solution...other than buying yourself another?

Not to derail the thread, but is 'dust cover' a fairly new term? I've been shooting handguns for 30 years and never heard the term until about a month ago. And since then I've probably heard it a dozen times.

Edit to add:
Ramlite makes magnetic attachments for lasers and flashlights for 1911s and other pistols without integral rails. No experience of how effective they are, but it might be worth checking out.

I think the term dust cover is 115 years new😀

Duke, the little rounded dust cover portion is way too thin to mill anything into it. It's done that way on purpose for the weight and balance of the gun. So if you want a rail of any sort you need to buy a gun that has a rail included in the basic design. Or get an aftermarket that gets installed as was already mentioned.

A 1911 in stock form fits smaller hands well. But for SWEATY hands it's all about the material the grips area made from. You can either find some really aggressively milled G10 style grips that bite in well or look for some Hogue rubber grips. The rubber composition works pretty well even in summer with sweaty palms.

The stock grips on NP29's has changed over the years. But those in wood or the hard plastic are both pretty slippery when your hands are sweaty. So it's aftermarket for you.

If you grip a 1911 properly, you really do not need grips on them. So grip material, design or texture will not matter because your hands or palms do not really touch the grips enough to matter. You can actually shoot a 1911 with out any grips at all, try it.

What will work for sweaty hands are a textured or checkered front strap.

True enough!! Try a strip of skateboarding tape on the front strap. It's like sandpaper tape and gives great grip.

How well do the NP29 Norinco mags work?
Just wondering if I should pick a couple of those up for extras, as they seem to be substantially cheaper than the higher end mags, and I can also save on shipping if included with a CanAm order.

The 2 original mags that came with my NP29 needed a little tweaking to be totally reliable.

The front part of the follower was snagging on the magazine body/tube. All I did was to file down that area of the follower a bit and that solved the problem, and it hasn't recurred since.

I have two Mec Gar 10 rounders that fit and work perfectly as welll.

Can you go into detail where it needs to be filed?
