I have a few questions and since many of you have both the Norinco 9mm and 45 versions this is a good place to ask. Is the 9mm slide the same size as the 45 (i.e would it fit on the A1)? Is the extractor in the same spacing as the 45 with a different extractor installed and tuned differently? Is the barrel bushing area the same size? What about the barrel lockup? Any other notable differences? Do 45 mags fit the 9mm?

Basically I am looking for a project gun. I want to make a 357 sig by replacing and/or tuning the barrel, ejector, springs, and mags and tuning the slide of the 9mm version to handle the the larger case head. I was looking at my 45 and I could adjust/replace the extractor as suggested by "dan belisle" in the "1911C in .357 SIG?" thread but then the cartridge would not be tensioned against the slide without having it come out of the chamber a distance such that it could move over. If the 9mm slide is the same but with less material removed I could just remove more material to accept the 40/357 sig case head size and potentially end up with a more reliable gun.

I look forward to hearing any thoughts and ideas on this.

-The slide has the same outside dimensions but the breech face is different so they are not interchangable.
-Different extractor tuned differently but the space is the same.
-Bushing space in the slide is the same, not sure about the outside diameter if the barrels. Some older Colts had a thinner 9mm barrel at the muzlle so you needed a specifice sized bushing. Not sure about Norinco's.
-Different ejector
-Different slide stop sometimes
-The frame is the same so mags should fit.

That's the extent of my knowlege.

Thanks for the info. How are the breech face and ejector different?

Is the outside diameter of the 9mm barrel the same in the chamber area as the 45? If so this might indicate that a larger caliber barrel could be used without replacing the slide.

No, it's about the case head diameter. The extractor, ejector are in different locations.

It is possible to use a NP-29 frame with a .45 ACP slide if the ejector cut in the slide is modified or if the ejector is thinned to clear the .45 slide.

This is my Norkenstein.
It has a NP-29 frame. It shoots .38 Super, 38 Special wadcutter, 9mm, and .45 ACP it can also wear a Kart .22LR top-end.
