I have a few questions and since many of you have both the Norinco 9mm and 45 versions this is a good place to ask. Is the 9mm slide the same size as the 45 (i.e would it fit on the A1)? Is the extractor in the same spacing as the 45 with a different extractor installed and tuned differently? Is the barrel bushing area the same size? What about the barrel lockup? Any other notable differences? Do 45 mags fit the 9mm?
Basically I am looking for a project gun. I want to make a 357 sig by replacing and/or tuning the barrel, ejector, springs, and mags and tuning the slide of the 9mm version to handle the the larger case head. I was looking at my 45 and I could adjust/replace the extractor as suggested by "dan belisle" in the "1911C in .357 SIG?" thread but then the cartridge would not be tensioned against the slide without having it come out of the chamber a distance such that it could move over. If the 9mm slide is the same but with less material removed I could just remove more material to accept the 40/357 sig case head size and potentially end up with a more reliable gun.
I look forward to hearing any thoughts and ideas on this.
