I've fielded quite a few questions about this issue over the past week and I'd better speak to it before you M14 addicts rush out and :runaway: go nuts at the local sponsoring dealers.

The question is: Should I rush out and buy a Poly M14? Should I dump whatever M14 platform I have now?

Here's the discussion from my fence...

I have BOTH Norc and Poly M14's. There... buy BOTH of them! Kinda like the 9mm versus .45 ACP argument.

I like the Norc M14 price point of $ 400 ish because you get the forged receiver and great parts that work. Okay, the iron sights suck, but if you are (most of you will) going to 'scope' that M14, then the soft iron sights are a moot point.

If you are going to replace the stock (you like USGI fiberglass 'cause it's TUFF, or you like the Boyd's lamstock, or you are rich and can afford a McMillan Fat Bastard M1A stock), the the cheaper $ 400ish Norc is your answer.

If you need a bear gitter and you like a tupperware / plastic then stick with the Poly M14. You are paying $ 100 or more bux for the Poly, but this Poly M14 won't have the mystery oil that can potentially become a WHMIS nightmare and then you-know-what will fall off.

If you shoot iron sights then the Poly is your choice because the iron sights will work for casual application; I did not mention serious iron sight competition.

Hey, my Poly M14 needs indexing, so the Xhinese high school shop class dudes have not improved this end of the QC.

Frankly, both M14 platforms are great value for the money. They seem to share a few similar faults (indexing CAN be hit or miss), mystery cosmoline, battle size chambers (ALL USGI M14's had this designed IN), and their weight is not a detriment to some of you TUFF guys out there.

Should you rush out and buy a Poly M14? Shzt no...

If you are happy with yer Norc M14 (I know I am), then be at peace.:rockOn:

If you must have TWO (that's me, also) then feel free to own both of them.

All I can say is (like Laz2000) :

* get off yer butt and shoot your M14 extensively
* DON'T Spend a shztload of money into your M14 until you really, really need to
* Support your Service Rifle matches (since it's all about the shooter, not the boomstick)
* Quit standing in front of the mirror dressed up in your Airsoft (Hey, I'm a paintballer, I understand) outfit... you mirror kommandos... you know who you are out there!

Okay, I hope this input will allay all yer fears about which M14 to pursue. If you cannot decide, then do what I did... obtain BOTH of 'em. AT least we have choice here in Kanada! :p

I have a norinco, and I like the Chu wood stock (Heresy?), and the barrel seems okay in terms of index, and it shoots okay. Its lots of fun to shoot.

Unlike my mini 14 and my two combloc rifles (SKS and 858), this one really feels and shoots like a big gun.

Before I bought the new Poly (don't fall over guys) I read the stickies and knew I would have to have the gun worked on, but thats half the fun. Take something good and make it better. Gonna just go shoot it and not expect it to blow up and over time invest in the goodies I want done to it. I think this Poly is one of the best to come out of the Republik of China. A real good platform. As for the stock, well I always wanted a pistol grip, folding stock, polished walnut, oh you know, always want...

My poly is in the mail, making it 3 rifles. the first is the very early import AL00007 or similar, the 2nd is fitted with a AWB compliant filled in flash hider and the poly will make up the 3rd. I will have to attend one of these classes you guys hold.
