Norinco quality control - NOT A "ARE NORINCO's GOOD?" Thread...

I have been hearing that some Norincos perform great while other bite. The reason I hear is that some manufacturing plants in China take care to build a good 1911 while the next one doesn't... Any truth to this that you know of?

Untill not too long ago, 1911 in China was built in one single plant,
and that stopped production, btw...
So, the answer is: the "norincho" quality (or lack thereof)
of the 1911 comes from the same place.
Some people have pistols built on a Monday morning, some don't.

There is another plant, privately owned (but under strict gov control)
that goes full throttle production
and builds a 1911 slightly different than Norinco,
but it won't do business with Canada for at least few years.

I think the main issue with norinco is quality control. Lots of people here have had great experience with the chinese knockoffs. I have had three for three lemons, and won't ever buy another, nor recommend the brand to anyone as a result.

I know I'm not crazy, and I have to ASSUME that most of us on this forum ain't crazy neither, so anecdotally... I would have to conclude that some Norcs are good, and some bad, and like that proverbial box of chocolates... Ya never know what yer gonna get!

I have owned and traded some Norks in the past. Now, I have three 1911, two in 45, one in 9mm. I just got the NP58 in 40. All are great guns and very accurate. The new NP 58's quality is surprisingly good. Athough quality control is always an issue, you get what you pay for!

I picked up a Norc 1911 and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm not expecting too much from it at that price, but I'm going to do a full makeover on it, so not too worried about fit / finish / qc :)

I'm basically using it for the forged frame and slide.

I've got several Nork products.
My 1911 is excellent, beautiful blued finish, shoot great. Have a police model from Canada Ammo on the way.

My M93 Woodsman 22lr copy shoots great, Finish is not as nice as my 1911 and had to file a sharp spot on the plastic grip but all in all am happy with it and the $165 price from Marstar.

My T56 (Tokarev clone) 762x25 is too much fun to shoot, but you can tell It was built cheaply but shoots great. $199 for it and a 9mm bbl plus an ammo deal back in the day was too good to resist and still don't regret it.

Dominion Arms Grizzly (Nork) 12.5" bbl.(12ga 870 clone) Finish is OK but the Quality is awesome. A gunsmith that installed my ghost ring sights said it was built better than the " New Remington's". I'm very impressed with how that shoots, 3" rifled slugs thru the 12.5" bbl all touching at 75ft.

I've also had a few Nork SKS' and loved them all, but my Yugo will out shoot any of them. Still own my original "m" model tho.

My only bad experience was with my M305 (m14) It refuses to cycle the next round no matter what I do or shoot out of it. But again you can tell they're cheaply built.

I've got buddies that have all had good experiences with their Norks.

It's only my opinion but I will continue to buy Nork products as the $ is right and I've found the quality, especially on the newer stuff to be quite good.

Hope this Helps

I've never had a bad Norinco - and I've gone through 7.

Mind you, my newest additions have been better in quality than my oldest. I bought an SKS a while back - it was quite a bit older than any of the others I bought and the finish was quite rough, but it still shot very well.

My first pistol was an M93 and it shot great. My latest one has been another M93 and overall, the finish and quality are noticeably different with the newer one (2 years newer).

Mixed bag from me:

-Great 1911, will never let it go, my most accurate handgun.

-.22 Woodsman clone - bought it from someone who had trouble with it, so did I - from Lever Arms, so no warranty. Traded it to P&D against a Ruger Mk. III.

-M-305: No problems from me. Didn't care for rifle reloading so sold it on for about what I paid for it.

-NZ-85: Great, solid gun. Wish I'd never traded it. But Gunnar did well out of it :)

-7.62 Tok clone: Lots of fun with that surplus ammo. Some mag issues but nothing major. Again sent to Gunnar against a M&P.

-2 different SKS's: Again, good fun. Wish I'd kept one of 'em anyway :)

-JW-25 .22 Mauser clone rifle: Nice trigger, poorly installed sights. From Lever on sale, so no warranty. Just sold it for close to purchase price.

-M-213 9mm Tok clone: Picky on reloaded ammo, may have some feeding issues, we'll see with time. Damn good value for $99 anyway :)

-Dominion Arms (Norinco under a different name) single shot 13" 12 gauge shotty. Will tell you when I get it :)

Mine is just starting to come into it's own. Put a few hundred thru it first as mine is just shooting GREAT now bone stock. I've found it really likes hot loads with lighter slugs. 6.1 of 231 pushing 200gr fmj. But factory 230gr ball works well too.

I own 6 Norc's and they are all fine. I had one that was a POS (Browning HP) knockoff. Marstar took it right back without question and credited me.

The finish is usually rougher that the originals but that is fixed with a bit of polishing.

My Norks are fine, but other people do report problems, therefore there are quality control issues.
My first handgun was a brand new S&W Chief's special, you could #### it, and than rotate the cylinder a click. I had a Walther where you could drop the cocked hammer by pushing it. I've seen dangerous firearms from big US and European sources.

Note:

Norinco is an arms exporter, who represent a number of contractors which make various firearms. QC is therefore also a matter of model of firearm in question.

My ONLY biatch with Norinco is their lack of NP29's M1911 Single Stacks that they just cannot get around to exporting to Marstar.ca. I'm pissed that they have not had any in years, now. There... my rant against Norinco is over. :D

I've owned 5 Norinco 1911's in .45 and 9mm and all of them were fabulous. Too bad I've got 'Gun ADD' (read: attention deficit disorder)

I have a
NP34
SKS/ pinned barrel
HP9
a Outlaw in the mail

I am really impressed by the quality in the NP34 and the HP9, I had a Ithaca clone that was pretty crudely machined but the 870s are great.
The NP34 is pretty much perfect, I haven't used a SIG but I dont see where it could be much better, maybe just a little better fitted for 2.5x the price.
The SKS was made years ago for the army so it might not be super well finished but it is very accurate and supremely dependable.

Thanks NORINCO, cant wait for my outlaw.

SKS - bought in 1992 so it may not be Norinco? Excellent, reliable rifle 4MOA at 100 yards with surplus ammo.

M93 - complete piece of crap, light firing pin strikes, ftf, fte, burst fire. Good only for clearing drills.

NP29 - very reliable pistol with ball and HP's As reliable as my GLOCK17.

HP9-1 - very reliable shotgun, modified it after checking it's reliability.

Dominion Arms Outlaw on order - time will tell.

I bought a NZ75 norc and shot 100 rounds with it.Very accurate and precise, but after 100rds, the firingpin stops broke letting the firing pin out the gun...:(.
Now I have to deal with marstar warranty...hopefully we'll get it fixed in no time. But I can say its hard to be pleased by sometings that breaks so quickly.
Maybe i bought a lemon made on a friday...
