hey guys,

I was wondering where is the better place to get my hands on a norinco rifle...

I really like the JW-103 but it's listed as "not available" on the chart at Marstar.com and I cant find it anywhere else... anyone know where I could get one?

I'd also like to have an SKS... and I've seen them on Leverarms.com for 135$, is that a good price/place to buy?

anyways, I'm new to these type of rifles so if anyone has anything to say, it will be appreciated.

Thanks a lot!!

I tried to get help from Lever Arms to get the junk norc 1911 commander they sold me, working. They were very helpful(after 2 letters) with giving me a name of a gunsmith to fix it...at my expense. I was also told that though it was a new gun it was built to military standards and that the buyer should lower their expectations on these firearms. Too bad they did'nt say as much in their ad when they were selling it. Hope that helps with your decision making on model/dealer.

I'm not a fan of the commercial Norinco SKS's. The older Chinese military versions are much better quality and can be found used on this board for slightly more than that. There are also the Yugo SKS around now, but they're considerably more expensive.

The Lever SKS's are not quite as pretty as the Chinese Mil. models but they do work .

If your just looking for a plinker , the Lever SKS is a good deal .

Ok so let me ask you guys something, since I know umm... barely nothing about SKS's, other than the fact that I want one... lol

Where the heck do they come from? I know the chinese made them, the yugo's, russians... and a bunch of other people... but when you buy one, has it been looked at by someone or refurbished or anything? And what about the Norinco SKS, why is it so cheap? and where do they get theirs? is it brand new?

thanks again guys, the info you posted up top is very apreciated

The Chinese SKS's were all made in the 1980's or earlier. Many of the commercial ones were made for export to the US market, but can no longer be sold there, so we get them cheap here.

Many of the ones floating around are rebuilt military rifles, many others are commercially built from the get-go. The military ones are better made and generally command a premium.
