You really need to strip it down.
Lookup a handful of videos on youtube. One is bound to have half-decent close ups. Just go slowly, hitting pause and play, and do a step by step.

Not a good idea, the loctite will soften up.

Needs a skeleton stock, ergo grip and some aluminum hand guards first
A total detail strip and a few parts polished.
I've heard of putting the STOCK in a dishwasher on a junky SKS, the heat really helps pull the cosmoline out of the wood, then you rub it with oil. I can't imagine a whole gun in the dishwasher would result in much more than swollen wood and a pile of rust.
Or in the case of an AR, shiny plastic and a pile of rust.
