With a "french ticker" version of this SKS, is it possible to remove the smaller retention pin from the bigger takedown lever receiver pin non-destructively? Or is it welded in-place as one piece? I know it's possible to just dremel it out and that replacements exist. But I'm curious if that small pin can be coaxed out with penetrating oil and a bit more force on the Norincos? My pin seems to be a solid cylinder whereas the replacements are shaped like hollowed out tubes.

I'd guess you will have a hard time getting a 'solid support' inside there to try to drive it out. I haven't tried but have read of others who have done it successfully. And also many have D'ed it off.

It is basically the same PITA as removing the pin from the ferrule on the front hand guard. Which is very hard but you have lots of space. But there is no space around the take down lever. Basically impossible or you try a gunsmith and see what he comes up with. I was able to get the remainder of one out and found a new pin to put it in but I don't think it is possible to do it while installed. You also don't want to damage any surrounding parts.

Here's the trick how to do it. First push the lever in but pointing up,securing the lever with vise grip with jaws wrapped with electrical tape make life easier and protect the finish. With a 1/16 punch, gently start drifting the retaining pin. Use patience and work carefully and the pin will come out. Notice the relief hole in bottom of left side of receiver, that give the pin room to be drifted out. To reinstall, place the pin in the correct orientation and drive it home. Et voila! Hope that help somebody.
