Here is a question I have never seen on any boards. Why is norinco building m14s? They cant ship them to the US & the Canadian market is pretty small, western Europe has very restrictive gun laws & eastern Europe is swimming in small arms. I could see military contracts for the ar clones but the m14? So where else are they going?[/code]

That's why they're all stamped with a U.S. import mark. I can't see them making any new receivers and I think sooner or later this source of cheap M14 clones will dry up after their stock of receivers are all sold.

not exactly- both alan lever of lever arms and marstar imported small lots of m14s before the ban- these are the ones with the ground receiver scope hole- other than missing the full auto connector lug, bayonet lug, and the rod , they're real m14s- all the other bits are there- alan must have imported at least 300 -because mine is in the very high 200's

A quick clarification:

We have and continue to import the 'USGI style' (for lack of a better term) M-14S. As t-star stated, the rifles are as similar to the US-made original military issue rifles as many AR-15s are to the M-16 (semi-auto only, no bayonet lugs, and absolutely no f/a fire control group).

There is nothing stopping the Norinco M-14S from entering Canada (except our magazines are limited to five rounds). Yes, there is an import ban in the United States. FTR all our M-14S/M-305 rifles are imported from China and have never been to the U.S.

Hope this helps,

- Peter

I cannot confirm or deny that the Norinco M-14S receivers are NOS (new old stock). I do however know that this rifle cannot enter the United States - a fact which turns many of our American board members green with envy.

There just isn't a better bargain on a .308 semi-auto rifle available anywhere.

OK, I'll wade in here momentarily. ALL the M305/M14S receivers I have laid eyes on still had the old American pre-1994 receiver import markings on them. It seems logical to me that any receiver with a marking like that was, at the very least, forged and rough milled prior to 1994.

On Chinese made guns, M14S in particular, the first two digits of the serial number are the year of manufacture. In China a firearm is "manufactured" the year it is assembled into a product. Most I have seen were "00" or "01" which, if I remember, is around the time Marstar started drawing on their supply and offering for sale.

The older guns from the 1990's had non-standard serial numbers starting with "AL". AL = Alan Lever.

Hope that info clarifies things for SOMEONE
