I recently acquired a Tu-33/40 .22lr Trainer from one of our members. (not sure of mfg date)
It's about a 3/4 size copy of it's K98 big sister. The rifle is an absolute dream to shoot and surprisingly groups good too!
It also doesn't rip into the bursitis anywhere near as much as the 8mm!
After a little searching I found Navy Arms Co. from the States imported a similar Norinco called a TU-KKW .22lr Trainer.

The cool thing was it came with a side mounted scope!!!!!

So there's my new quest...... Not sure us Canadians got the model with the side scope or not.
This one doesn't have one and I want one!

On the left side of the receiver there is a small side scope rail. (as seen in above pic)

Looks small compared to say a SKS, or AK 47 side rail. I'm not sure any regular mount would fit the small rail.
Maybe someone who has or had a Norinco Tu tried to mount a scope on the side?
I see a few with the conventional top mount scopes...but that's no fun.

More to follow...

Update
I did some center line measuring and found the Mosin Nagant 91/30 steel scope mount with 26.5mm rings would be very close to the same centers. Picked one up off eBay.

Also purchased another PU scope from West Rifles.

Ali Express has a copy of the scope and mount for less. But the scope is very cheap. Only has 25.4mm rings and the cast mount is very heavy.

All parts arrived early this week.
Started trial fits of the mount to see how close it would be. I used a laser to bore sight the rifle out to about 20m. And clamped the mount right against the side rail.

Stuck a laser in the mount making sure it was center and turned it on. Couldn't believe it! It was only a few inches high and one inch to the right. Mounting any scope for the first time never is that good!!!

Measured and drilled some holes...

Made sure every still worked like it should.

Then I added some JB weld to each side of the mount while the mount was on the receiver. Added some silicone release gel to the receiver and rail.
This is how it turned out.

Went out this afternoon to my favorite spot. Set up a target at 30m.

It's okay...have to work on chin weld for sure. Actually open site groups a bit better. But it was my frist time out and I'm happy.

I have one of the Tu-33/40 with the side base and don't remember seeing any more like it until this thread.
It has the front hood and unlike the recent imports the bolt handle is like a regular 98 and requires a high mount.
