Norinco Type 97 - Yay or Nay?

&;$) NO based on north sylva's customer service. Deny, delay, and then delete.
Simply no spare parts can be found anywhere, and no warranty either. You are on your own.
Interesting since there was a thread on CGN were a bolt was lost and a replacement was obtained from North Sylva, also you can buy a couple for the price of a Tavor if you are that bothered about spares.

I say buy it, if you do you have to install the magpul front grip on it though...makes it feel so much better in your hands then without it. and the FTU top is a bonus.

got a store by my house called " heros army surplus" $44.00 for the front grip and then I bough a magpul picatinny rail.

You have to cut about half an inch off each side of the rail ( hacksaw super easy it's only polymer) screw on the rail first to the gun and then the front grip will slide on...it's a very tight fit because of the shape of the handguard so you will have to tap it on lightly with the butt end of a screw driver or something but it will go on.

If you're going to drop $1K plus and then add on another $400-$500 for North American rails FTU's Lower handgaurds etc etc
Just put out another hundred or more and pick up a used NR XCR in .233 Rem.

I tried the T97. It's a fun gun. But that's about it. It's not what I would consider a great value for the price they go for in this country. At that price there are better choices available.
The Negatives (for me): mag well is finicky with certain mags, some mags fit loose and sloppy and that leads to feeding issues. It had feeding issues with anything but FMJ ammo. The irons aren't as bad as people make them out to be but they are far from great. I'd say "usable" at best. Might be more accurate than it appears but with the irons I couldn't do better than a 4" group at 50 meters with good quality ammo! My stock SKS with surplus can do 2" groups at 50 meters!
On the plus side: I like the design, it's solid, very simple and when using FMJ it was very reliable with the factory mag, it's a simple user friendly design, like an AK47 Chinese bullpup in action and design for lack of a better description.[/B] I like the simple gas setting selector, the trigger wasn't bad for a bull pup anyhow.
Not for this guy but that is the unbiased good, bad and ugly Sir. Hope that helps! ;)
