I did a search on GN for info on the type 97, no info ...Anyone have one of these things and what's your oppinion. I have my eyes on a few guns so I'm thinking of selling my Ar15 and replacing it with either the Type 97 or a Cz858 and then using the leftover cash to buy a nice M1 carbine I've got my eye on.

Thanks guys

Must have missed all the issues with the RCMP changing their minds after the fact on the Type 97.

Well I was at my favorite gun store today and they told me that they were in customs and won't be allowed into the country. I sent an e-mail to Canada ammo and was told they're taking orders and waiting for them to be cleared. So I figured I'd try and get some info on them then maybe place an order. Got nothing to lose right?

Thanks all

I did a search and couldn't find anything, didn't think of looking in the Red Rifle Forum..Can the moderator move this over?

These things have been locked up for almost 8 months now with absolutely no indication that they will be released anytime soon.

Think twice before "buying" one.

Isn't there a law that states that the Government has to return the property to someone in 14 days unless they press charges on the owner?

I'm not sure of the rule regarding maximum days government agency can hold an item for. But technically, the items have not reach Canada yet (still under review of customs). They can take as long as they want. So lets hope RCMP will give a verdict to the review soon.

Some of us have been waiting with our nearly $1000 sitting in CanadaAmmo's bank account for over a year now.....we are still waiting, and still support CanadaAmmo.
We are all hoping to get our Type-97's! Read the other thread, all 100 odd pages of it. You'll get an idea of the issues.

+1... read & you WILL be pi$$ed off @ what the "RCMP" have been up to... Effectively, they have been "making policy", (read law) & testing the waters as to what they can get away with regarding firearms law in Canada...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. & once you've read up on it, write some letters to add to the letters others have been writing!!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was told Customs can hold onto goods for 365 days. This is an old antiquated law dating from the 1900's when customs inspectors travelled across country on horseback.

Since when do bureaucrats ever follow the law unless the Federal politician in charge of that particular bunch of paper pushers actually has the time to rigorously keep an eye on them, and the intestinal fortitude to stand up to them when they go astray.

This is how the "system" was designed to work. Alas the current crop of elected representatives has shown themselves more than a little reluctant to tone down their unelected subordinate's power grabs.

I still have my money with Can Am and have written letters as well as talked to my MP's staff because of how this whole saga unfolded.

The civilian chief of the CFC has left, replaced by an RCMP officer, after only 6 months on the job. Why, I don't know, but all the formal letters I received with regards to the 97 were written by the former chief.
