Any one tried partially grinding away the spot welds to make "whacking" it off easier, mine have heavy tacks. Ive given mine the maximum amount of hammering force Im comfortable with before I end up bending the barrel. Not keeping/saving the neutered FH. Not using a puller or press.

you could try .... if you can see the two weld spots .. to drill out the weld using a drill press ..... do not go too deep

I have seen at least 1 ... welded on so good .... it broke the flash hider at the bottom... when pounding it off

did you have fun getting the nut loose app 1/16 inch?

Nut was literally finger loose. The spot welds are substantial to say the least. You can see where they tried to sand the mounds down into large crowns before parkerizing.

Slack the nut so there is room for the nut to move. Apply persistent percussive persuasion without bending the barrel.

If it fails, drill out the spot welds. Reattempt the above described paddlin'.

I have had good luck loading the castle nut "forward" to apply pressure to the welds before "whacking" the FH.

I also make use of gravity to help, i clamp the bbl into a bench vise so that the FH is pointing down. Eliminates the risk if bending the BBL.

I have never ever ground or cut the welds, and I would hazard a guess that i have removed a couple hundred welded FH's....
