Thinking of installing a free float handguard. Can I cut the original gas block down enough to clear, or am I going to have to buy a low profile block?
Handguard will be a yankee hill midlength if that makes any difference?

You can cut it, not a problem. But if you can remove it intact, I'd keep it as is and buy a cheap low-profile gas block.

Read this thread. Board member zykopat did an excellent job chopping his FSB...

I just went with a low profile gas block. Depends how handy you are and what your time is worth.

Cheers

Why thank you! You don't have to be a gunsmith to do the job, just take your time, be confident and the rest will come easy.

BTW, I had to cut the bayonet lug and the sling swivel ears (not shown on pics) to fit the type of rail (Troy) I had over the gas block.
