I'm having problems with my 8 round 7.62x25 magazines "dropping down" slightly after a round or two, hence doesn't chamber the next round. Sometimes to keep things in line I have to place one finger under the magazine while shooting to ensure it stays in place. Anyone have similar issues or a solution?

I have a type 54-1 as well. I noticed the mag does seem "loose", but it always feeds and has never fallen out once inserted. Is it the same problem with different mags in your Tok?

I'd guess the mag release button/spring is to blame if all the mags are the same. If you had a pal with a working Tokarev you could troubleshoot.
Mine is just fine. Try wiggling the mag release and see if there is a working position for it.

Hi just unpacked my new toy a Norinco Type 54. With the pistol I ordered two additional magazines. I think I have the same trouble you are having. I think I know the cause but am unsure of the solution. All four mags look the same but the two that do not lock in place have the number 0772 on the mag base plate. The working mags are 0876.

The 0876 mags lock in place with a snap noise and will only release with the mag release button. The other mags seem tighter but will not lock.

Any Norinco Guru have ideas?

Is your pistol SN0876? if so then the mags may need to be fitted to the gun. That's usually done by opening up the slot so that the mag retainer pin fits properly

You are right. The gun and mags have the same number. So I should try to adjust the slot on the side of the mag so the retainer pin fits?

I'd take the slide off, remove the sear unit and watch the mag lock up. Then slowly open the slot up with a needle nose file, or even just smooth the notch with emery cloth enough to get it to catch. It's probably very close and just needs a nudge to let it seat.

You've gotta love a $200 gun with fitted mags

I know of this problem, the side of the magazine is pushed in a lil to far, maybe bad manufacturing? What I did was I took the magazine apart and I put a knife in and turned it sideways in the middle to push the magazine out a bit then after that the magazines worked flawless.

I'm not sure if this is what you referred to but that plastic guide that the bullets sit on in the magazine was what got stuck and the bullets kinda just rattled around and the spring didn't push them up so they could chamber.
