Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the New Norma .284 Win Brass is available anywhere in Canada yet.
Any F Class shooters please feel free to respond.

Surely there must be someone on here that can answer this question.

Thanks

I looked around a little bit and can't find any listed but have you tried calling Mystic Precision to see if they can get it?

What about sizing 6.5x284 back up to 284 win?

Hi Markus,
No, I haven't spoken to Gerry yet. I was kinda hoping he would pick up on my post to be honest. Last year I bought some 6.5 x 284 to do just that but I was concerned about the doughnut issue. Now that I hear that Norma has started producing the 284 Win I'm thinking why not give it a try aye!

Hi Alpheus,
I hadn't heard about this to be honest. I read & watched a video where Charaz Balolia the US F Class team captain was signing a contract with Norma to produce it. He was saying that he believed it to be a definite improvement over the older brass.

Straight 284 brass from norma i seen was soft and didnt last very long. In my opinion lapua is better and alot cheaper and most reamers now a day are set up for lapua brass also.

Hi Buckmastr,
I don't think there were ever any Major issues necking up 6.5 x 284 other than the few cases of doughnut sometimes appearing. This is from various forums I've looked at in relation to necking up. I purchased Lapua Brass & a K &M mandrel to do just that but I've not tried it yet so, no experience!
Now that Norma are doing straight 7mm 284 brass, obviously I would prefer to try it.

Thanks

Was this the New Norma brass mudpro. If so, I'm surprised to hear that because it was hailed as a definite improvement on it's release by some of the top F Classers!
Some of the claims were Longevity & much improved primer pockets.
I do accept that Lapua does make superior brass though,...well worth the Xtra.

Hi Jerry,
Sorry, that statement's Not making much sense to me,.....
Are you saying you have stock that I can purchase ?

Thanks
shona

furtaker,
Are you saying that you still have the brass in stock ?
If so, could you confirm for me please. Let me know exactly/quantity you have & the price.

Thanks

Yes that was the new stuff. Within 3 firing it was growing alot at the .200 line and the die was shaving brass off there when sizing. Never seen an issue with necked up lapua running at the same speed and have over 15 firings on some of my lots of brass. Maybe i got a bad lot or maybe my reamer isnt spec'd right to let it work with the norma brass. But you would hope you wouldn't have to order a new reamer just to run that brass.

Very Very interesting!
I take your'e point on that. So, for a Newbie like me who's just getting started with the .284 Win do you suggest staying with my chosen brass ( Lapua .)

As I mentioned earlier, my intention was to neck up 6.5 x 284 using a K & M Mandrel. Is that the preferred method & the way you would advise me to go ? Is there a knack to avoiding those dreaded doughnuts I've heard about ?

I was also contemplating building a 6.5 x 284 for Hunting so I could then double up on the brass aye! I appreciate your'e help & advice as it's most welcome.

Thanks

If you want to avoid a doughnut you just have your chamber throat out past where your bullets is up past the neck shoulder junction of your brass. That way even if it does form it wont effect your neck tension because your bullets bearing surface wont be coming in contact with it. Yes a sizing mandrel is the preferred method to necking up the 6.5x284 brass. Are you building a fclass rifle or hunting/mag fed rifle?

Real precision shooting in the Edmonton area had some norma brass in 284 win. Dasher norma as well but guessing they might be sold out by now. Wait for Pedersen or ADG atlas.
