I have 2 different kinds here. The 180gr Oryx does 2500 fps as per the specs on the box. The 180gr semi-boat tail does 2650 FPS as per the specs on the box. Why and how are they so different? How would I drive a 180gr bullet to 2650 fps by reloading? Thanks.

Lee Second Edition shows 180grn over 50 grains of Ram Big Game will do 2700 and 45 grains of Ram Tac will do 2600.

I haven't used that powder, but 50 grains seems like lots. I am assuming a heavy recoil.

as for why the difference? Not 100% sure, but its most likely the type of powder they use for each. That or bullet seating depth. If one bullet is longer, to keep OAL the same, they would have to reduce powder or risk over pressure by the reduced case capacity.

Personally, for my rifle, I find that 39grn of 3 different powders with a 174grn bullet makes a very accurate load. No its not a "big game" load but its more energy than many other 30 cal rounds.
