very interesting photo's and thanks for going to this effort - I am not sure what to make of the obvious difference to the area around the flash hole on the rt case vs the left and whether the difference is really just from the way the cup was initially drawn or whether it was from creating the flash hole...This area is of some importance as it is obviously where the powder charge ignition is initiated - I wonder whether the small raised (or depressed?) area on the right case aids the initial burn or effects/controls the primer fire in any way? or differently with different powders (burn rate) ??

On thing I picked up from this was the Norma .308 is pretty thin walled compared to Federal. Hard to see in the pics but very obvious to the eye when I cut it. The Browning/Norma 30'06 was the same thickness however. I weighed out a few different .308 brass just to veryify, Norma was the lightest averaging 164gr, Winchester was next at 169gr, Lapua was 179gr and some old DA 64 military 7.62 brass was 194gr.
But yeah, I have no idea how or why they make the '06 with that raised area around the flash hole....

Just wanted to bump this and say don't bother with the Swede/Metallverken 30'06....ordered 100 just to check them out, and they are in pretty rough shape and need a lot of prep. They were stored in basic 20rnd cardboard boxes and several pieces had lots of surface corrosion, most had minor stains/corrosion, more then a tumbler will clean up, needed a good spin in the drill with steel wool. Flash holes are small and punched and will need cleaning up as well. Norma/Browning 30'06 is much better stuff....

Thanks for the heads up. I actually ended up going with some new lapua brass I found.
