Normal for a new pistol to arrive like this?

Just picked up a new 44 mag from SFRC on a great sale you had, thanks for the great price and free shipping! I also appreciate you guys putting CCFR membership info with the package.... great to see a vendor supporting firearms rights in Canada.

That said, I am wondering if this is normal...I have a few pistols, (glock, sig and S&W) but this is my first revolver....do they usually arrive "test fired" and clearly used like this? I'm not overly concerned about the scratches on the cylinder and barrel as this firearm will be used in the bush for my ATC and will get beat up anyways, but the extractor rod has clear physical scarring on the knurling...if i had to guess this was a demo model behind the counter and has been banged around a bit already...but like I said, this is my first revolver so I apologize if i'm off base here.

I was under the impression I was purchasing a new firearm...not a used one or a demo unit.

Could you clarify things for me here?

thanks.

Pictures removed as they had #### links in the bottom of the page.

1) there's no picture

2) usually firearms are test fired (some come with the casings when purchased)

3) its usually better to call/email SFRC instead of making a public post about this. Just my suggestion.

I'm assuming you purchased a stainless Smith & Wesson. They all come test fired from the factory. They don't clean them after test firing and they always look dirty. If it is a 4.2" one they are technically custom shop ones and get test fired even more so they are even dirtier than the 6" ones. We get this question all the time...I should probably put it in the items description.

Usually handguns do get test fired before shipped but, in my experience, they are cleaned before shipped out. Depending on how well revolvers are cleaned, they may show signs of having been fired, they are rather more "difficult" to clean as well as pistols. Scratches are no-no on NIB guns of any kind. SFRC is a great store to do business with so I am sure you will hear from them. However, how can you drive around in an ATC in the bush with a restricted firearm? Just curious...

The pictures are working now. You can see what cylinders they test fired....looks like 3 rounds. I wish S&W cleaned the guns after test firing like most places do.

I ordered a Gp100 Match from IRG and mine was dirty as well. They test fire every gun. The reason I was given is that the guns were coming clean and people were complaining because they didn't think they were test fired. You can't please everyone..

I've bought several SW from a variety of dealers, and they always seem to be the dirtiest... cheap ammo!?

I'm assuming it's a Wilderness Carry ATC... that's what I'd want a. 44 for!!

What about the (pretty large) scratches on the barrel ?

He isn't driving around in an ATC, he has an ATC so he carries in the bush!

Perhaps he has an ATV.

I hear ya, but I'm no princess, if there are few scratches big fkn deal..it's a tool not a toy.

But I hope SFRC can understand when you look at this firearm as a whole, it doesn't give off a particularly "new" vibe. The mashed up knurling on the extractor rod, and wear around the cylinder journal marks to me indicates it's been handled fairly extensively, though probably not mistreated...only a very slight wiggle to the cylinder.

Yes Phat Eagle, i am getting wilderness ATC...thanks for responses guys.

Caring or not about scratches is not really relevant.
What is is that you paid for something new and you are not getting it.

I think he'll find they aren't scratches but rub marks from the container. They come off with some oil and rubbing. Most stainless guns look terrible out of the box. They show every mark and piece of dirt.

I'm locking this thread and deleting the pictures. People keep messaging me that there is #### across the bottom of the site he used to host it and I just verified that, twice ;) OP feel free to email me if you have any questions.
