Hey, I see some reviews, however, looking to get more feedback. I am on the hunt for m305 and see there are Norq and DA available, but there are some differences like muzzlebreak, gas cylinder lock on DA closer than on Norq. Are both still Norqs or DA is a better option?

Hey Walley, I just ordered mine yesterday from Canada Ammo. It should be here mid week. If you want a close up look give me a shout....

DON'T buy one!

GET Both! Trust me, you will need spare parts after all that ammo you will shoot and have fun shooting! At my clinics, I am always being asked for spare parts. What am I spare parts inventory warehouse? :D ha ha ha ha

That's why I keep reminding y'all to buy TWO of them. The Zhinese high school shop class factory don't make or market spare parts, so at the price of 400$ and change, buy a pile of them for horsing around. :)

Cheers and keep helping other noobs!

Well Norq I can get for $400, but DA goes for around $600, that one reason I asked if there is difference.

Hey, I just had a look at that $499 deal from Canada Ammo. That muzzle brake is reversible and threaded on there fer ya already. That's a neat feature! I kinda like that stubby approach for a Bear/Deer/Truck/Zombie rifle!

My only hesitation is that muzzle brake don't give you no PING!

Just watch this YouTube video....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgLUtM-L3Ck

Listen for the PING of the round going off and then vibration pattern makes that PING from the Flash suppressor! Pure ecstacy!

Cheers and keep on helping all them noobs here!

I may just take ya up on that 48206, If you have any questions about giving the gun a once over, drop me a line. I took in Barneys clinic this summer and learned a ton. I picked up a Marstar 22'' and all I have left to do in knock off the flashier and replace it with a USGI and replace the front and back sights and she will be all finished. Shot Ok right outta the box. Can't wait to finish it up and get back to the range with it again. @ Barney, gotta love the PING!

ya, that's kinda useless feature for me as it is not providing any purpose, only look.

Also,
From images, I see that front dight location is different between Norq and DA, why is that and is there benefit?

Sight is on the gas lock on both, in these pictures. One looks to be an 18.5 inch and the other appears to be a 22". Rather than the flashider placement on the regular, non socom models.

I just had to check out the "DA SOCOM" to see what all the fuss was about.
After due consideration I give this one to the Marketing Gurus at Can Am.
Apart from a couple of minor tweaks (sight and muzzle brake ) this is just a Shorty Norc.
I understand however, that there has been a major effort in QC and that this batch is of the best quality . Time will tell on that side of things.
Im already hearing pple say they are changing out the stock and MB.....on a brand new gun.
You could buy a used shorty and do these upgrades and save quite a few beer vouchers, and have the pleasure of building your own gun.
Right now, for me, its a no go, but to those who have em ENJOY and lets have some range reports ASAP

There's more discussion about the Norc SOCOM on the CanadaAmmo forum here... http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/986516-NEW-ITEM-Dominion-Arms-Socom-18

I am somewhat baffled by the oddball [.595x32] thread pitch of the muzzle...it doesn't appear to jibe with any of the usual M14 muzzlebrake manufactures. However that's a bridge I'll cross if I need to. As it is, I'm hoping this rifle lives up to its billing as the 'best M305 yet'. If all goes well, I'll know by next weekend...

In the first picture, the sight is on the flash suppressor.
In the second picture, the sight is on the gas cylinder lock.

Although IMHO, the rifle looks cooler (hehehe) with the sight on the gas cylinder lock, you may lose your zero every time you move the cylinder lock to clean the gas cylinder and piston.
You will not have to worry about this if the sight is on the flash hider (traditional position)

The top picture appears to be the 18.5" "shortie" M305

I believe they are the same barrel lenth, that picture is showing the reversible flash hider. Top picture it is normal, bottom it is reversed covering the barrel a little bit.

Hmmm....this is an interesting comment. Can anyone confirm how the Navy sight mount in held in place?

Should thread on like a normal gas lock and then held in place with the gas plug (make sure it's tight). I myself like the gas lock sight that Marstar sold years ago. Reminds me of the hk style full circle sight protector. I find it easier just to line up the two circles for cqb shooting even thought these rifles are overkill for such short range paper punching :) cz 858 is my favorite cqb rifle

The benefit of the gas lock sight or better yet the gas system sight is you don't have to re-zero the rifle everytime you want to remove the gas lock.

And with the socom 18 you have to remove the allen screw for the front sight to spin off the gas locking ring. This is my 6th M-305 and it is the nicest yet.

One good about is that DA is trademark of Canadaammo, which has excellent service. A plain Norc could be imported by any importor....
