Hello everyone,

I thought I would start a thread on North American produced Lee Enfield rifles. The two pieces I have to contribute today are a Savage 1943 No4 Mk1* and a 1944 Long Branch No4 Mk1*. Both of these are unissued examples that I recently acquired. As far as I can tell, the Canadian rifle received a new set of furniture in 1954 or 1955. The Long Branch also has a five groove barrel while the Savage has a two groove barrel.

I post this in hopes that others will share a sample of what they have as their own North American produced Enfields.

Above: The Long Branch No4.

Above: A comparison to the mauser.

Thanks for looking.

snip...

A 1942 LB conversion to .308 in as new condition. ( note plugged screw holes above trigger guard, for extra strength )
Rifle was also given new 4 digit serial number on wrist with Cdn Arsenal stamp below it

...snip...

the wood dowels on each side of the DCRA stock are not "Screw holes" for extra strength, they are in fact pins to hold the stock centred on the action in the days before acraglass was (available & acceptable) for bedding military service rifles.

You learn something new everyday, Thanks !

OMG!! This is what I'm talking about!! Amazing...I'm so jealous !!! One day, one day....

Now that's an early Long Branch! Must be a 0L-###x or 1L###x- serial number, is it? There were only a few made in the first year. This thread will need to be retitled to include the Mk 1 models (without the "*" ) too .
I have a 1C series Savage but it's currently in bits awaiting re-finishing of the metal parts.

Yes....0L62xx...no *

I showed a no* rifle as it was our beginning in 1941, and they are quite different from the * version in a number of attributes.
It wasn't a full year of production either at Long Branch in 1941.
